GOG version or this?
To my knowledge older games on GOG always include latest updates. I'm not sure if it's the same here on Steam, I've heard they sometimes ditch older PC ports. Just wondering if anyone knows which version (GOG or Steam) is most suitable to be ran on Windows 7, or are they the same?

I think the steam version is just a re-wrapped gog version (so it probably does contain the wrong intro).

Buy older games on GOG. Games on GOG are always working with modern PCs. Old games on Steam are orignal und untouched. Threre is no garantee that they will run on modern machines.
Try to play Legacy of Kain 2 bought on Steam. It's impossible. The version on GOG works perfect!

Well that's a damn mystery why is it so for you because both versions are absolutely freaking identical down to a byte.
GOG is far, far, far from perfect when it comes to updating and its reputation for adaptation of games to newer systems is greatly overblown. Most of the time they just put fanmade patches in there and call it a day. The cases in which GOG version is superior are actually very, very few.

These are my experiences with old Games in Steam and GOG. Games bought on GOG are working and on Steam not. In addition games of GOG don't need any client to work. Huge advantage, at least for me.

Again, I am baffled at this statement considering how I own both versions and Steam version of Defiance (all Legacy of Kain games, really) is *absolutely identical to GOG's*. Not a single byte of difference.
Also, GOG version always working while Steam versions don't work - that's not true. At worst you'll need a little bit more fiddling with the Steam version to install the fanmade updates that GOG version includes prepackaged, but pretty much everything works.
Hell, sometimes the updates on the GOG version go out of date. And of course the Steam version is always first to receive the official patches, while GOG infamously have a trouble with that.
