Try to play Legacy of Kain 2 bought on Steam. It's impossible. The version on GOG works perfect!
GOG is far, far, far from perfect when it comes to updating and its reputation for adaptation of games to newer systems is greatly overblown. Most of the time they just put fanmade patches in there and call it a day. The cases in which GOG version is superior are actually very, very few.
Also, GOG version always working while Steam versions don't work - that's not true. At worst you'll need a little bit more fiddling with the Steam version to install the fanmade updates that GOG version includes prepackaged, but pretty much everything works.
Hell, sometimes the updates on the GOG version go out of date. And of course the Steam version is always first to receive the official patches, while GOG infamously have a trouble with that.
