You start with two, though it is easy enough to kill one of them off.

I played just a few hours. If I can't find someone to replace (I don't about the possibility) I think will be super hard. With 2 game is hard.

i think it's possible, not with all the characters. But a character like Darrel can manage to survive easily alone, because you dont need to cook with his skill Iron Stomach.
EDIT :
Nevermind, after few hours, it"s start to be really tricky, just working on the barricades of your shelter almost need 1 people all the time.
