Renewable Resources or game over?
Bout to dive back into the full game after trying out the demo a few months back. Im wondering whether theres a way to keep getting resources/keep playing or whether theres a finite amount of resources in the game, and so that functions as a soft time limit - in example; youll eventually run out of wood to barricade with and your shelter will become overrun.

I'd hope so, if not in story mode then at least in some kind of endless mode, with an endlessly generating city that you can just infinitely roam through; depleting the areas you pass through as you go.
I cant give you spoiler here, but I understand your concern. I think the key is to know your priority first. If u have played the demo before, I suggest go to the areas, that u have already explore before that is easy for u to tackle at first and collect the resources that u need. For sure, I can tell u, the same areas u may need to go for a few runs to collect all loots.

Maybe event destinations that are only available for a short time could function as an RNG way to resolve this. Seems like the best way to get some renewable like resources and solve the finite issue
The game is focused on the survivor's escaping at the moment. That said, there is a LOT of resources. And with the tech tree at it is, endless resources would become mind numbing-ly boring after a short while.

+1
totally agree with this. there is just 1 play mode right now, and its goal is to escape the town, not to build a place where you can stay forever.
maybe the "scenarios" that will come at one point, will introduce some kind of gameplay OP is asking for.

This game has a tech tree and playstile very similar to This War of Mine, in both, resources are finite, but from what i can see, you have a long time. Your priority is food tough, you can either get a shelter with a planter (ideal) or try ro reach the point you can build one. The biggest thing is the "area of exploration" (that personalily i dont like)
