Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days

Game Is Way Too Easy
Once you've learned the mechanics of how the zombies behave and the spots where "surprise" zombie attacks occur on certain maps, the game becomes way too easy. Once you get a level 2 Dismantling table up, and if you have a survivor like Joe that gets bonus salvage, you're basically just a few day/night cycles away from having all the base upgrades. But you don't need all the base upgrades because the medical station is pretty pointless. You pretty much start out with all the meds you will ever need and you will keep finding more even more meds throughout the maps which you will never use. The level 3 barricade is also pointless. Once you have a level 3 Cooking Station you will never worry about food ever again, and that goes double if you have a survivor with the Good Cook perk.

As a challenge, I recently tried a run where I try to kill every single zombie in the game. Well, it turned out to not be a challenge at all. The hardest part was getting the revolver to shoot fast enough when I carelessly ran through the Police Station entrance shooting at everything that moved and woke up like 20 zombies at once, but even that was fairly manageable. I have over 90 Casseroles in stock ready to eat and 250 wood to repair barricades fairly endlessly, and haven't even fully looted all the locations yet. I've rescued every survivor every run I've done and never had to worry about running out of resources because there are too many mouths to feed. There are no tough decisions to be made here.

Weapons are way too plentiful for a "stealth" game. The only reason to craft any weapons at all is if you are running around killing every zombie you see, even the sleeping ones. The devs patched the weapons to have more durability recently too, because people were complaining about "realism" (???), which just made the game even easier.

And just very recently I realized you can send out more than 1 survivor at a time! So now I've started sending out 3 survivors each day/night phase and thus looting the entire city and killing every single zombie has become pretty trivial. Where is the challenge? Is it even possible to lose at this game? Loving the concept of the game but the difficulty is just nonexistent.

Once they add in trading the game will likely get even easier. The devs say they will be adding more maps and content, but if all of this content is going to be at the same or even easier difficulty that will be pretty disappointing.

Maybe more areas like RM & K communication, Mitchum Powell Plaza, 9th Prescint station and ST Bernadette Hospital. The tunnel can add some more contents.
The revolver makes it a cakewalk. I just went through the police station with 40 rounds and was able to take every zombie that came at me. I would hope they balance stuff out to make it more difficult or even add insta-kills.
I personally think that if there were added events near the exits that prevented instant escape (such as a locked fire escape a survivor needs time to open for you while you defend yourself) it would lead to a more satisfying tension. It also doesn't help the dead bodies are just fully intact, zombies are meant to be horrific, id expect blood all over the walls and innards coating the floors making it difficult to run without slipping potentially or tripping depending on exhaustion levels.

The game is indeed too easy, they need more difficulty settings that affect consumption of items, scarcity, zombie density etc. I'd like a "hard" mode for sure.

The pre-alpha demo was heavily criticized for being too difficult. The first semi-complete early access (beta) version, which adjusted weapon durability to be more believable and realistic at the expense of the difficulty, according to some, though I disagree, as it simply made the game less frustrating, is now facing the opposite issue.

Since this adjustment was made in response to initial criticisms, it is predictable that, given the roadmap includes an option to choose difficulty, feedback will help to better calibrate the classic difficulty levels of the genre: story, easy, normal, hard, nightmarish, infernal, etc., based on various parameters such as available resources, weapon power and fragility, and zombie strength, among others.

I think now the default mode is "normal," no longer "hard".

The game has gotten so easy for me, to the point where I’m clearing all the areas by punching zombies XD. I really hope they improve the difficulty with the mechanics they’re trying to implement, and if possible, add a harder mode.

When I saw a title saying that things were a bit more balanced in the latest update(today), I decided to try again. There was no noticeable change in the weapons, and the annoying bug I have is still there.

Please, instead of only listening to the same group of people who always have an opinion on everything, also consider feedback from different players.

all I want to know is; will the system about weapons from the release version eventually be brought back into the game?

This is bad faith. There is indeed a patch 0.3.4 which is minor and which according to the announcement means : "We've made a small update to improve performance and tweak the balance of weapons to better match the recent durability changes, we've also made adjustments to certain locations in the game and changed the starting weapons, along with modifying the crafting costs" (summary by ChatGPT).

I think you should stop forcing your own opinions and making assumptions about others' intentions under comments from people who don't think like you, and know your place. I'm commenting here because they asked for feedback at last update, and I directed my question to the developers, not to you it's none of your business.

On a scale from 0 to 5, the previous difficulty was around 3.5... maybe 4.
Now it’s more like 0.5, maybe 1 at most — they could definitely make it a bit harder.

What really bothers me is how much each item can stack — like, 4 screws shouldn’t take up the same space as 4 planks.

If they add some kind of sandbox mode, or at least a difficulty selection (could be from 0 to 5, or whatever system they prefer — maybe with multiple options to customize your gameplay), it would be perfect.

But honestly, the game is great. Don’t get discouraged by criticism — just filter out the constructive feedback and ignore the idiots.
I don't, I block.

Yes, even more than great.

I just did a quick test, it seems indeed since the 0.3.4 update in terms of weapons we have gone from a "normal" level to "easy", but it is very very relative, because the general difficulty remains "normal" and no longer "hard" as with the demo: it is enough in fact to be surrounded and trapped by two zombies and it is always the almost fatal outcome...

The final verdict of the calibration will be made with the choice of difficulty to appeal to different types of players.

I agree. Its actually the reason I do not consider buying the game - yes I know, sounds a little "rude", yet I really had hoped for a TWOM-like game, but especially the lack of any urgency on the (overworld) map - like a timer for example - just makes the game in its current state to barebones for me. Will come back here, if it changes a little. There are, sadly, way better things to play and enjoy currently.
