which dog do I buy?

Judging by the reviews, this is worse then 2. but the thing is, 2 has dlc and mtx which I hate. So should I get 1? What am I missing from the sequels if I only get the first game?

I greatly disliked gta 5. Same goes for SR. WD looks like a more serious game.

If you didn't like GTA or Saints Row, this might be a good fit. I recommend you get it anyway since you can refund within 2 hours if you don't like it so.. there's no real risk. I for one like the game, I had it on Uplay and I am actually getting it here too. Not sure if I should go for anything other than Standard though.

Go for it. That's the cheapest one and it will give you a good idea of what you can expect. I would go for this one myself, especially since the refund policy is protecting you in case you dislike it. But you can get the first one and go from there.

WD2 is likely the best in the series, gameplay and story-wise. WD1 was mainly a tech demo, though it did feel nice running through traffic and messing up people's day, which you couldn't do with quite so much impunity in WD2. However, I don't think you're actually losing if you pick up either 1 or 2.

Legion's fun, but it doesn't really feel like a WD game. I'd still say it's worth the price, but with a grain of salt.

I thought about it again and I think I will get all of the standard editions. Kinda tired of buying DLC's that I will review bomb anyway.

Will try and save you some money: Don't buy this game. Ubisoft Canada gave me the highest tier digital edition (I.E. the one with the season pass) for free for being "one of the biggest fans of WD in Canada" and I feel like in retrospect that may as well have been an insult.

This game is a husk of what it was intended to be, it is shallow, it received little support, and the only reason it got released on Steam now along with a bunch of other Ubisoft titles is probably because they ran out of people willing to buy it on Epic or directly through Ubisoft's store. You'd be better served with 2 or even 1, as those games have defined characters, an enjoyable plot, and gameplay that didn't make me want to pull teeth.

WD1 and WD2 = better story though still nothing special.

WDL = the best sand box and most beautiful world (in the WD franchise). Don't play the zombie mode. It's horrible.

I just wish that someday Ubisoft would learn to make more "mature" games. All their games feels like the target audience are 15 year olds.

I picked up Legion Gold on Steam, and they gave me WD1 on Steam.

That's unfortunate. I had a similar relationships with Splinter Cell franchise, so they rewarded me, but in a different way, when Splinter Cell: Blacklist was released, and I loved Blacklist. That's said, I loved Legion even more.
