Viral hack broken on PC, or weird key combination?

I am using a character that has viral hacking and nothing I do triggers a hack on more than one person.

You hold middle mouse button to open hacking mode, hacking mode uses 4 buttons: R, F, space & C. You need to hold either R or F, or space, or C to propagate your hack among several nearest targets.

To understand how it really works hack several cars standing near each other in traffic jam or on a parking lot holding one of the four buttons.

Nope, that is how to hack ONE car and tell it what direction to go towards, not how to hack multiple targets.

What I need is being able to do the propagate hacks, where you get a radius to propagate hacks, like on a crowd of people.

I read the description. It makes no difference if I hold the button, it just executes on the first car or person you target, it is totally failing to do an "area" of effect. Even trying to move the mouse onto other targets while holding doesn't help.

That is why I'm asking if it is broken, or maybe they changed how it works and they never updated the description.

In case something wrong with your keyboard, mouse or background programs and shortcut settings on your PC, go to Options - Gameplay - Hacking mode, and set it to Toggle. After that swap to a hacker operative, pick a random NPC in a crowd, toggle hacking mode and just hold one single button C on your keyboard to distract several NPCs. No WASD, no shift, no space, no middle mouse button, nothing. Just hold one single button on your entire keyboard.

If Viral Hacking won't work after that I don't know what to think. Reset controls to default if you changed something, I don't know.

That was the trick. No idea why it didn't work before.
