Aerial platforms: how to build them?

I'm trying suck up the juicy resources on a gas giant but I was having issues with building the platform when its suspended high above the ground in my first go at it. I'm also setting up a proper mine on the core is another head scratchier as I cant seem to build roads to connect them to the airport.

You have to scroll to set the height the platform floats at, I would recommend not maxing it out cuz that seems to cause issues with it being considered "in orbit" so you can't interact with it

The core is very hilly, the terrain down there has massive spikes everywhere, and the game has a 100m limit on flattening terrain, so that might be stopping you, might need to try connecting the mine from a different angle
