Great game, but I hope the mouse/keyboard controls are improved

I just bought the game and played the first map. Super fun! I know I am going to love this game. But, I am a diehard mouse and keyboard player. I will use a controller if I have to, and apparently this game is a "have to".

Trying to select your units with the R key while moving with WASD to gather them all up is nearly impossible to do. There must be a better way to do this with mouse and keyboard.

But, for now I'll suck it up and try to get used to controller. It seems easier, but I still prefer mouse and keyboard, if only the UI was done better.

You can use middle mouse button to gather them.

Sadly I can't stand using the middle mouse button for things. It's just not comfortable of a click for me. Thank you for the advice, though. I'll try to get used to controller until they improve the keyboard and mouse controls.

I guess I could map the gather to mouse 4 or 5. Maybe I'll try that.

Try using left ctrl for gathering units as you go around the map. I'm not sure if it says anywhere in game that you can do this, but it's the best for keyboard and mouse. (edit: this is enabled by default, but not listed in the "Controls" menu)

So, hold left-ctrl down while using WASD to gather the units? That is completely awkward. Are you using the arrow keys for movement instead of WASD? I'm using WASD.

Yeah you hold left ctrl down with your pinky while you move around with WASD. It feels natural for me - your pinky isn't used for anything else except shift to gallop. If it feels too far away, try rebinding "Command Units" to left shift and then just toggle gallop with tab instead of using shift for gallop.

Don't forget that you can rebind your keys.

how is holding ctrl with wasd akward?

You don't think holding the left ctrl key down with your pinky while using WASD is awkward? It is extremely awkward and uncomfortable, and also hard to be precise while doing it. For me, obviously. Some may have greater dexterity , but that is just not a good combination for me.
