so there's a mobile game called "nightfall: kingdom frontier td"
is this a pay to play copy of that free mobile game or is it the other way around?

The mobile game is most likely a copy of Thronefall. Thronefall was being developed over several years by a small group of young german developers which published their progress on YouTube. Whereas Nightfall is coming from a chinese company, its significantly younger and a suspicious pay-to-progress copy of lower quality.
