Switch vs PC
Hey all--trying to decide if I'll grab this on PC or Switch. I hear the Switch version is locked at 30 FPS--but maybe that's NBD for an RPG? Just wondering what people think about how twitchy the games is / how important a high frame rate is / or if having it on Switch is just fine.

I really enjoyed playing Sea of Stars handheld, in bed lol. I don't have a Steam Deck either.

Thanks in advance.

Switch version is fine, experienced no slowdown or stuttering, there's nothing wrong with it. And I agree, RPGs are best played in bed.
Framerate is never important in RPGs anyway, 30FPS is fine.

Awesome! I figured that was the case. I've been playing Sea of Stars and it's wonderful, there's definitely slow down here and there on Switch but it's rare and doesn't bother me. I just wanna chill and game. I was just making sure performance wasn't really bad or anything. Thanks for the response.

Switch is 30FPS, lower resolution, shorter draw distance, and longer load times.

It's important when it's an action RPG like this one. Battle game play will be much smoother, and more responsive at 60FPS+ on PC or Steam Deck.

It has a demo on the Nintendo eShop. Play both Demos on Steam and Switch and then make your decision. Easy.

I'll never understand PC nerds that care more about graphics and power than anything else.

"Lower resolution, lower draw distance, longer load times"
Big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deal. It doesn't matter or hurt the game in any way. Shove the clown emoji up your ass.

Longer load times makes a major difference with all the screen transitions, like say... enemy encounters.

Plus, 60fps is just a smoother experience, if you have a PC that can play this, it is just objectively better.
PC version supports 4K 120 fps, so *shrug*

Playing any game at 60 FPS feels remarkably better. It really does. I've been playing Sea of Stars on my Switch and sometimes the hiccups are distracting and the load times are really long, for even the smallest things like stepping on to a map. It's no deal breaker, I'm having fun. I definitely don't care much about THAT much fidelity--I want better games that are shorter with worse graphics and I'm not kidding. Like for real. I just want fun stuff / good stories / I'm totally in to pixel art and ♥♥♥♥ that looks like Quake 1. But, all that said, smooth is smooth. I like smooth. I like snappy and responsive.

it's even funnier in this instance when the game they're bragging about running at 4k 120fps uses upscaled 240p PS1 character sprites with 4 frame animation cycles.

That is just grasping at straws. Faster load times by themselves makes the PC version superior. If you prefer your console, that is perfectly fine too, but lets not delude ourselves here.
Chriziel Nov 7, 2023 @ 3:09pm
I have both. Switch pretty much for portability reason but everything else pc is the superior version. 30 fps is fine for tactical or turn based combat, but for action rpg's 60 fps or above combat and movement just feels smoother and responsive. Faster loading times is also a huge plus for me.

We get it, PC turbo nerds!
PC will always be the superior versions of a game, but you completely missed a detail OP said, they liked playing RPGs with their portable in bed! They wanted to know if it ran okay and it does on the Switch, I'm 40+ hours into it!
Who cares if it supports 4k, I'm not interested in seeing the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DNA of the textures! The Switch version is acceptable for what it is!

Maybe you should take a chill pill dude, stop being a self-centered console fanboy.

PC users are the most insecure and self-centered nerds in gaming, don't project onto me.

The demo is available on the Switch, you can just download that and see if it works personally for you.
