Is it possible to recruit Opera and skip Ernest?
I plan to pair up Claude and Opera and use the party slots for other members.
Thanks in advance.

Unless it's been changed, finding Ernest was optional in the original PS1 version and you had to chase him around the world map, so he was easy to miss.

Even then, he's subject to the same relationship levels the other party members are, just he and Opera have a head start with one another.

Unfortunately I'm an Ashton guy so I've only played with Opera once or twice before decades ago.

Yeah, you can. There is a point of no return though, so best to not even talk to him. Cause if you get to far into him, then you'll be forced to recruit him or Opera will leave the party too.
You can get Opera and skip Ernest and also skip a specific PA to get a Secret Opera ending

If you don't want earnest do not do the private Action in Aria where you see his ship before the Hoffman Ruins

Too late then, hope you got an older save or it's back to the beginning.

The triggers for getting him are seeing Opera's ship in the Sacred Forest and seeing his laboratory in the ruins. If you do both, he'll show up later and you have to get him or lose Opera.

"Let me recruit everyone" no. Stop whining, game is made for multiple playthroughs.

Sounds like an extremely bad game design. Especially when 90% of the game play the same regardless. Good design is like Tales of Xillia where the 2 protags have different route progression. Or Triangle Strategy where character recruitment is tied to unique routr branching. This game has 0 reason to have missable characters and 2 MC when they couldve simply showed us cutscenes from both perspectives.

Even with 8 characters it's a bit much. When 4 characters of your preference are built correctly they can handle most fights, leaving the others warming the bench. At the end of the day, this ain't Chrono Cross.

Having unique party compositions gives a different experience each time. It would also be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ managing friendships and viewing PAs constantly, not to mention tanking replayability.

On a NG+ it is incredibly quick to breeze through the game, recruiting whoever you want. It isn't that much of a commitment.
