With the right food you can neutralize the relationship penalty for pickpocketing. There is also one for Contraband, too, I should probably go back and add.

Just learn crafting level 1 and let your chars work with iron until they get nimble fingers.
The same goes for other talents
A lot of the good stuff you could pickpocket in the older games are irrelevant now because the nearly full IC is available so early on so pickpocket isn't nearly as good as it used to be.
Still, if you want the sword of marvel and some other good stuff you can use art to craft goodie boxes or pickpocket the one in marze from the old man on right side of town building.
Actually, the best method now is to use the Jelly food from Master Chef (iirc Fruit + Vegetables) which you can craft 20 of in a couple seconds at like level 4 cooking on two characters and lv1 compound. This food lets you perform two steal attempts per food eaten without a relationship penalty. No need for PA or not.
