Is this game really that good?
I already got a backlog list for 2024 to play, is this game so good it´s worth moving it up to buy and play tomorrow? I got games like ace attorney ,kingdom hearts 3 etc already but some people seem to think Second story is so good I might buy it and play that first.

Is it really that good it´s worth moving up in the que?

It is.

One of the best Golden Era JRPGs, and the remake is done right.

I would personally say yes it is really good, BUT I would say give the demo a try and see if the game play seems worth it to you. If it's worth bumping up your backlog is only something you can decide.
alright, well I played the demo enjoyed it and if the rest of the game is as amazing as people claim I might as well. Can probably grind it out in a week or two.
got 24 games on my list of games to finish in 2024 . wish me luck lol.

It's a fun and innovative (for the time) rpg, but the thing that really sets it apart is the ridiculous number of endings it has. Nearly every character has a love/friends/hate ending with every other character. You can have the two main characters hate each other by the end of the game, or pair up Nearly anyone with anyone (they're all hetero though so don't think you can have all the dudes/chicks have the romance endings)

Still my favorite JRPG after all these years later. Oh and the story isn't ♥♥♥♥ like almost all modern JRPGs.

If you like JRPGs then this should be considered a pretty good contender on your list. Me and most people wont claim it is anywhere near JRPG's best, but SO2 is one of the better JRPGs that doesn't have the name Final Fantasy in it and has a different combat system (more action based). Story/cast are not special but they're enjoyable. SO2 is more about the overall package than individual strengths, though.

Final Fantasy is mid though. 16 games and not more than 3-4 are better than Star Ocean The Second Story.

To be fair the Star Ocean series has 5 other games and none of them are as good as SO2(Original/First Departure comes close, three is okay, four and five are not great Star Ocean games, and 6 I've not played enough to really have an opinion on but seems fine), so the fact that FF4/6/9 are contenders along side SO2 weirdly enough gives the Final Fantasy series a better percentage of good to meh.

Ah yes, if you talk about both series as a whole :lol_tk:. But Star Ocean series has very big gap between SO2 and the others I don't even consider them as Star Ocean games lol :lol_tk:.

To be fair, even if a bunch of the games are mid it still absolutely rocks JRPG rankings if you ask almost any person or group what the like top 10 or 20 JRPGs are. Often, it usually holds the top three spots combined, maybe even over half the top 10. It may only have a few gems, but those few shine.

Also worth pointing out there are quite a few other JRPGs that arguably outclass SO2 if you were to ask most random people like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, etc. It IS a good game though worth recommending. Back when it released it was considered kind of mid-tier among many other excellent JRPGs, but by today's standards with the utter drought of good games, particularly JRPGs, its status has elevated. Plus, it is definitely one of the SO franchise's top entries along with 3.

What about SO3? C'mon... JK, I know it doesn't appeal to some.

Star Ocean 2 and Lufia 2 are the best RPG games in existence.

Well, I did spend 200 hours+ on SO3, but just because I didn't have any other game at that time :lol_tk:. Mom didn't buy me any.

yikes

please don't speak out of your butt, dear sir.

SO2 was very well received at its era.

I don't know what you are up to but xenogears and chrono trigger did not have the modern days aura they have nowadays, back in that time.

Back in that time we, as player from that era, would almost always be surprised and satisfied by the new jrpg releases, and we would not always speak about nostalgia and the old titles, it was the opposite, we were just excited about the new releases on the new and next hardware.

Anyway.

SO2 is a Tri-Ace gem, it packs some of the best ost, battle system, vilain and secrets dungeons, out of all the games coming from the " golden era "

It is a gem among the gems.

Funny speaking about so3, that game was released in a soft-locked version in japan, they had to release a new and patched version 6 month after.

SO2 is a really a one of a kind gem project, it outclass all the other entries in the series, and by a good margin.

It seems so.
Legit GOTY candidates or at least in the best RPG section.
