The "expensive drink", aka seltzer, isn't gone. It was never sold in any of the towns we can visit in the demo. The earliest town you can buy it in is in Harley.
The skill that randomly gave you items such as mythril was never available this early either, and the demo outright states at the start that we will not be able to acquire new skills in the demo itself.
Seems like you just got a lot of faulty memories about this game. I wouldn't be too worried about the final product.
Oh, I'm not worried, it's already so much more refined then anything else in the series I played. I'm looking forward to it. I'm just going to have to learn new tricks I think. I'm good with that, if it was exactly the game I played all those years ago, I could just play that version.
Once the lists and odds are known, it'll be a grind instead, and less fun, but for now, it's all new, and fresh and just... good.
Wait can you get a ring of lightspeed from the benefaction card? If so that's... pretty strong. I don't remember even a Meteor Ring being possible loot from those. The first one otherwise you can get is before the final assault on Phynal...
Ring of Avoidance sounds nice, throw that on a character in your reserve party with an Earring of Readiness and no surprise battles, and you cant be back attacked. (I would prefer Readiness at the start of the game, as enemies are relatively weak and keeping your battle orbs is a bit more important than accidentally running into an enemy. Escape doesn't break your orb count either, so that's always an option)
The benefaction card also shares a loot table with the Goodie Box, which gives 3 items instead of 1. You can get one by completing 10% of the item encyclopedia, which is pretty easy if you do some cooking (5+ of each ingredient) some crafting (same again) and buy all the cheap items from stores. (Without buying weapons/armor/jam)
Also, with Ring of Lightspeed/Meteor in this remake, I think putting that on Celine if you also get the factor for "deals an extra 10% damage to guard" would shatter guards based on how fast she attacks.
At least the skill breaks from the first game aren't capable, since some of the skills don't seem to exist in this version (specifically the ones that lowered skill point cost/etc), but the skill packs were available in Crosse and Herlie fairly early on if you skip the story.
Hell, by Mars you can have relatively broken gear as is based on the ultimate weapon disc 1 breakdown guide. Marvel sword, luminous slicers, etc. Just because it's not end game gear doesn't mean it ain't broken. But I'm also not sure if the pickpocket bit works on this one or not. I was kind of hoping they either left this path intact or made up something similar on purpose so you COULD still figure out how to break everything if you tried hard enough.
Determination (The skill that lowers the SP required for other skills) still exists, it shows up at 6:41 on this trailer but only for a few frames. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl3AuAVC8Ss
And yes, like the broken post above me said, they are lol.
