it is the kind of subject where arguing is absolutely useless and that's good
also the camera tilt makes them look like cardboard cutouts which I hate, good 2d models still give you an illusion of volume

Lets face it, if they used updated 3D models there would be a legion of angry people, you can't make everyone happy but I suspect the fans of the original will mostly be happy.
It's weird to me that with the rest of the game environments looking like that, they would insist that the character sprites look like THAT. On top of such high quality drawn (and animated) portrait art, and seemingly fully voice acted. They animate well, but I think there needs to be just a little bit higher pixel density especially when there are frequent close-up shots. Perhaps it's an opportunity for modders to step in? First Departure R sadly never got a PC version
It's quite a large job updating pixel art and not ruining it, I think that's why they often go this route... I'd really only be happy if they hired pros to do it, but remasters are usually 3rd party and cheap labor.
But ya, i can see why some people would not be happy with, what appears to be, an exact copy of the sprites from the original playstation release. It would be nice if square at least allowed an option to switch between the original sprites and something more modern/smoother looking like the psp version.
the sprites are blurry pixelated mess
I doubt it would add that much to the cost of the game
