Horrible timespy/extreme scores with 13900k and 4090
Time to add to the list of something wrong with timespy. I’m on win 11 22h2 on a msi z690 ddr4 tomahawk Wi-Fi and 13900k msi 4090 64gb 3600 mhz RAM XMP I have no stability issues with the system or windows crashing or anything nothing is overclocked just this 3dmark problem

When I first went to win 11 my timespy and timespy extreme gpu scores were 32k/19k

Now timespy gpu score is a mere 15k and extreme 16k
Timespy gpu usage is 50% or lower

Also this appears to be tied to my cpu performance I thought it was Intel management engine/Mei firmware related as some have reported on z690/790 and 13th gen and have been keeping them updated

Recently my cpuz single/ multi thread scores went from 900/16.9k for no reason to 890/16.5k for no reason and when the cpu is running in the higher mode that’s when I get the correct gpu scores in lower mode the abysmal scores and my system switches randomly

I have no idea what’s going on and like most no games are affected and in either mode port Royal and speed way score fine 25k and 10k

I’ve tried everything reinstalling 3dmark DDU different drivers so I don’t know what to do

We do not know what exactly causes this yet, but everything so far seems to be pointing towards some kind of Windows issue that comes up with latest gen Intel systems, possibly specifically after a patch that was released on Feb 28th.

My system went back to normal today 36k timespy score 19k timespy extreme

It is 100% percent a gpu utilization issue when I am getting the correct scores usage is 100% low scores below 50%

It also seems tied to whatever my cpu performance is in cpuz like I mentioned above it has to be in the higher mode to get the correct score

My system stayed in the lower bad score mode for 2 weeks just today it switched back normal I have no idea what causes this and it doesn’t affect games at all

Mine did as well (go back to normal for no apparent reason) . There's another thread we were talking about the same issue but was was not just Intel systems.

This problem is not specific to Intel, I have a 5900X and a 7900 XTX and my TimeSpy score used to be around 25K but now (since Feb 26 according to my results history) it's below 13K. Also on Win11.

7900XTX, guess mine worked the first time, thanks for the heads up.

Here's my latest: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/37931146

You can see the problem easily, the game clock is way down, with no good reason (very low temps).

My last normal score, same system but just a few Windows & driver updates before: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/36952965

I will try to isolate this, it can be a bunch of things like the fact I recently enabled support for hardware virtualization in Windows...

Three options:
1- Heat issues.
2- Wattage issues.
3- You need revise energy config in windows.

Hardware virtualization not should be an issue.

I'm bumping this, having the same problem here. 13900k/4090 and getting scores around 16k due to the GPU only at 50% load. I reinstalled windows, and was able to run 2 timespy runs (32k) before the usage issue occurred again.

https://www.3dmark.com/spy/38232065 (50% issue)
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/38234639 (full usage)

Rebooted my PC, that didn't if it either. Disabled G-Sync, didn't fix it either. Re-enabling it obv did nothing.

edit

Rebooted it again, and same utilization issues. Sick. Would love to use this for testing, other than just games - but kinda hard to when it breaks itself after 2 runs.

This is not a benchmark side issue. Something very odd is going on with your system and/or the drivers.

Do you see same issue on modern tests (ie. Port Royal or Speed Way)? Time Spy is really too lightweight test for 4090s and not recommended for it.

I can confirm I have the same issue as Doom Slayer. The gpu utilization in Time Spy/Extreme sometimes will be 50% on my 4090/13900k causing a massively low score. It switches back and forth between 50% and 100% whenever it wants to. Speed Way/Port Royal and games are not affected so I’ve kinda just stopped caring about it.

The fact it doesn't happen on newer tests suggests this is a CPU related limitation. Ie. bottleneck for the test suddenly moves from GPU to elsewhere.

When comparing the result, one odd difference is that on normal ("100%") result the memory information shows no per-module details or memory frequency

On the odd ("50%") result, module information appears and shows 4200Mhz. I assume this is the correct speed?

GPU temps on the wrong result are so low that clearly the GPU is almost idling during the test. You can also open the "result details" fold and see that the vast majority of results with same hardware fall to the area where your normal result runs at, and only a very small number show the lower abnormal score.

If you want to compare mine against Doom Slayer

Nothing changes in memory details here, so lack of module detail in the other case was just a random glitch. Same otherwise - GPU temps and usage way lower. And since the benchmark has literally no control over such things, this is firmly something on system/driver level. The benchmark just renders a 3D scene as fast as possible and measures the frame rate and calculates the score from that. For some reason the GPU decides not to boost up properly when the score is low.

I have kinda the same issue but mine is related to CPU score on Win11 22h2

13900KS with 4090, I dont care for the GPU score now but my CPU score was 28k+ and now I cant break 23k. Same OC not overheating

Only thing that changed was windows and driver updates

I had something extremely weird happen today. I’ve had my S95c for 3 days. I went to run 3dmark timespy extreme which I have like over 300 hours on 3dmark I had just games for like 5 hours. Upon loading the second graphics test my screen went crazy lines everywhere across it extreme graphical corruption rainbows it was insane. I didn’t think it was the graphics card I’ve had like zero issues with this 4090. So I was like **** the TV. I hard reboot the PC everything starts up like nothing happened the screen was fine and upon looking in event viewer it was not even a hardware error like nvlddmkm or anything it was just a timespy workload.exe crash. The card is at stock and the GPU is working like nothing ever happened passing every test even the same timespy extreme test so I’m not sure what that was lol but it scared me and I am at 144 hz. But it’s not the TV. I’ve never had issues with games crashing or anything.
