Whats the difference between Xenonauts and UFO: Alien Invasion?

Is it the price tag?

UFO: Alien Invasion is free.

Aside from one being 3D and the other 2D, whats the difference?

Is it just these two mentioned differences?

It was the first UFO/XCOM type game I played. It (fully patched) was flawed, but not terrible by any means. Why do you think its terrible, may I ask? It has a lot of gameplay elements that neither XCOM EU, nor Xenonauts. nor UFO Defense dared to include.

I'm playing the Ufo:AI 2.6 version and i can say it's a pretty good game. There are some major changes from the 2.4 version.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UFO games are fine now but when a lot of fans of the original X-Com games tried them out they weren't in great shape.

You are probably correct. I loved it because I had not expectations or assumptions about how it should play. Also the vanilla game was apparently buggy and broken, the fully patched version I started playing was not so.
