Apparently it makes the XDiv a bit easier in the early game.
But I do not suggest to play XDiv - Its a poorly balanced mod, which can ruin a 40 hour game in case you did not do certain things in the early few hours.
I had to use an excel sheet (made by some dude on Xenonauts forum) to track what I have captured and what not on my 3d try in order to make sure I do not miss anything again. But I got tired of the constant grind against androns who were stupidly OP on Phase 2.
I suggest you try it for youself, maybe you will like it if you tune down all the difficulties to low (there is a separate submod, included into the pack, to make airgame easy. Do not be fooled, it makes airgame more *enjoyable*, not easy. If you fall on implementing new tech planes into your airbases you will not get UFOs down, which mean you will not materials/aliens to capture, which means you're screwed because the planes need materials and research.
In terms of content there is simply no other mod that fills in the stop (except XMT, but its for legacy 1.09 version of the game and gives even more shenanigans at the start of the game like unkillable 3x3 tile monsters)
I personally like the mod but ya, I would not call it necessarily balanced for those of a more casual xenonauts nature but i'd still give it a try because somethings are done right, others not so right but it cannot be denied a LOT of work went into it and that should at the very least be appreciated even if again, some things could of done with tweaking.
That said, playing it like x:ce will not work very well. I would never recommend playing it ironman.
Watching BlueAnkylo play it on YT helped me better understand the progression (and learn from his mistakes) and very importantly air combat, although i play nothing like he did and certainly do not copy his loadouts, tactics, methods, base layouts and locations or anything he does. Have to admit, early game ground combat was frustrating to a degree, as the original is the same somewhat, with all the one shot dead and whatnot. But that's probably due to me starting with an x:ce ground combat mindset.
That said, i play on the easiest setting with saves and really am enjoying the playthrough almost through the end of phase 2. I feel that the sense of progression is a bit better then the original, because of all the extra stuff.
Is it difficult? Yes, definitely more then the original (the original's mid-late game was steamrolling aliens) but not absurdly. Also, i like long campaigns. And x-division surely takes a while.
After getting some Tech i use 4 shield + smg and 4 laser minigun + Hunter Car with rockets
You should always have one shield guy with you for breaching and blocking purposes and when possible bring grenades. Primarily flash bangs and smokes (again for the first month), flash bangs especailly for aid in supressing.
Shields save life, i recommend 3+, one wont be enough since two good bursts on entering a ship destroy it.
Even with Just a pistol or smg they can still kill caesan and sebillian with a few shots.
I've gotten fairly good at conserving shields so i don't take more then two. But after several part play throughs i've gotten use to the general behaviour of ai.
