Unless they run and a alien shots them with reaction etc etc no they dont, i have not seen that happen.

Panic is a unnecessary feature in this game as it was in the original. It adds nothing to the game except frustration. It is also very stupid, trained soldiers don't panic if they see a spider.
Do yourself a favor, and mod out panic from the game.

all panic means is that if you ♥♥♥♥ up your screwed.

simplest solution is therefore not to ♥♥♥♥ up.

The only way anyone can avoid panic in the un-modded game, especially early game, is for the aliens to be peace loving hippy's, whom throw flowers at you, which they are not, and don't.

No, the commodore is correct.

Panic is pretty critical to the game's progression. Removing it rids the game of a pretty serious mechanic. Of course soldiers panic. They panic just fighting other humans, muchless invaders from space that are vaporizing their comrades. But panic is there to be overcome. Soldiers who don't panic gain immense value, and there is a sense of veterancy in having a squad of soldiers that no longer freak out in the face of scary aliens. Having a bunch of weak-willed, easily spooked soldiers at the start makes your end-game squads of doom all that much more awesome.

Or be good at ground combat.

Do yourself a favor, get rid of panic from the game.

To say even the most trained soldier doesn't panic on the battlefield is ignorant...for example irl if half an army just got wiped out in one go the remaining soldiers would likely start to panic and/or route fearing for their life...the game just adds that in as a bravery stat which would mimic if they decided to flee or fight.(in irl life ppl would call these guys veterans/hardened soldiers in a war as it dragged on which in game is building bravery)...but in case of this game they just run around instead of leave the battlefield all together. Games like the Total War series the defeated army would route from the battlefield. But overall it would still be scary to fight aliens anyways.

The issue has been it makes your troops feel like outright rookies. When even your worst soldier should already be a highly trained veteran. You are getting the cream of earths crop. So while Panic is a good game mechanic, it happens far too easily for rookies.

Panic makes a lot more sense if you consider a turn to be roughly 2-5 seconds of real time.

That said, I've yet to have any soldiers panic at all, I assume it's something you run into more in impossible. Hopefully it's not as game breakingly bad as vanilla xcom, where one guy trips and scrapes his knee and everyone simultaneously panics and shoots at each other.

I can't say for sure because I'm no soldier, but even with badass training, if I see a fellow trooper get vaporized into bloody gibblets all over me because of plasma fire and we don't even know where it's coming from, I might lose my ♥♥♥♥.
gyromatic4 Apr 15, 2014 @ 7:56pm
To help keep panic to a minimum, keep a high-ranking Xenonaut on the dropship at all times for the morale boost and keep Xenonauts within ten tiles of one another. Vaporizing aliens is good for morale as well.

Exactly. Ppl need to read up on how to handle panicing and minimise ti is all, in other words read the manual

Let me ask you all a question? How many of you went through Seal/Ranger training? That training will weed out those who would panic easily. Panic is set to low for earths elite forces. 2nd question how many of you went to any military training? The most basic bootcamps remove alot of folks with low/weak internal fortitude. Sure not everyone will get removed but seeing over half a platoon in this game panic is not real life...sorry its just not. Seals wont run around if they panic, rather they hunker down and cower behind something which in turn needs to pull the aliens closer to them to finish them off or grenaded. Its not realistic in this game.

Thought panic was a game concept from the Org X com? takeing it out would make this game even less affiliated with the org as the creators are striving to make it simmilar??
