So uh, when do the etherials show up?

I ask because I'm getting concerned that they just aren't going to. I captured a leader and the research told me to get an etherial (or whatever xenonauts renamed them to. the robed guys); that was about half a year ago. Massive ships have just started spawning this month and... still haven't seen one anywhere. All my research is done, everyone's kitted out in mag weaponry and sentinel suits, not a single alien ship escapes to space in one piece. I'm playing veteran if that impacts when these guys are supposed to show up.

Mainly I'm just concerned that either my game's bugged or I'm screwing up somehow.

When you start a mission with an enemy preator, the game will flash the message "ENEMY PREATOR DETECTED" with a short blurb about how important it is to get one and about how bad you are at catching them all if beat the mission without catching one. Odds are the preator wasn't on the ships you're shooting down or he died in the crash... ever had a battle where 90% of the crew is dead on arrival? I have and it feels sweet.

Are you saying preators are supposed to be on massive ships? Because I've deliberately let them land instead of shooting them down and took the ship entirely intact. No praetor.

Yeah they should be on the massive ships. You should also encounter them in large alien bases. Perhaps you've been getting unlucky. According to the wiki (although the wiki appears to be severely inaccurate) preators don't show up with caesan crews.

Then either I'm getting massively unlucky or it's bugged. I've cleared maybe 7 or so massive ships (in all flavors of alien) and 4 large bases. no praetor. no praetor corpses

They aren't on Carriers, they're on Battleships.

Ah, I've only been hit with construction ship types so far. I suppose I'll continue to fast foreward. Is it really supposed to take this long for them to show up? I'm actually getting pretty bored with it-- I've been ready to take on whatever the endgame misison/next part of the main plot for several months, there's nothing left to produce or research and I'm flush with cash, alienium and alloys.

I know the invasion proceeds at a set rate, but danm there is a huge ammount of time between capturing a leader and even seeing a praetor.

Yeah battleships are rare compared to carriers. I've had only 3 in my latest playthrough with 2 of them starting with dead praetors.

You might get lucky and discover a base, there was one in a base for me, before the battle ships showed up (I think).
