Because of the lore milkitary green or camoflage pattterns are useless/pointless.
is the lore that the aliens have different vision therefore traditional camoflage/colours don't work with them?
while that would make sense, I still think pale blue looks pretty bad - I've seen unifrom mods for the hanger view, but are there mods to change the colour/look of the sprites?
Dunno. It's possible to make one but it is ALOT of work. the size for the sprites using the first 2 armours are roughly 180 and 200 megabytes big iirc.
I don't think anyone has been annoyed by the sprites enough to actually bother modding them all the way. I think some has tried but given up after a few sheets.
The original xcom was a victim of the graphic quality of the time. Some games went the 'cartoon look' because it usually looked better than if you tried a 'realistic' aproach with the graphical capabilities of back then.
Imo it was a wrong decision, cause the game itself felt nothing like a cartoon and thus the cartoony were at odds with the game itself which was anything but cartoony in feel inside the actual game engine.

I did appreciate that.
Nothin wrong with that!
Just a thought... but selecting armor on the character equip screen selects what sprites these guys use. Why not write a mod that allows us to select some of the other character sprites as armor types? Like the desert local forces, or if someone really wanted to go with the traditional olive drab uniforms the standard soldiers from terror missions?
The friendly NPcs does not have enough sprites to cover all the weapons and equipment. The sprites in Xenonauts aren't modular so can't attach the shield sprite to the soldier sprite. you need to make a new soldier sprite equipped with a shield to show your guy with a shield.
Curses. It was a mostly good idea. Perhaps some people wouldn't mind sprites that lacked the accurate weapon display? Oh well. Thanks for the answer.
