X-division is harder all around than the original game. Yet, in reallity, once you know how it works, it becomes way simplier.
A few rules to know at start :
Ceasans : All ceasans uses personal energy shield. If you shoot them in front of them, it will be soaked up by the invisible barier, up to 160 damage. To kill Ceasans, you either shoot them in the back, Shoot them point blank with shotgun/Machine gun/AR, until shield is downed. You can also weaken the shield with a rocket, or beat them to inconsciousness with an electric stick (works well in 3-4 hit). Ceasans are weak, so once their shield is downed, backstabed, expect them to die in a few hits.
About half of them use ligtning guns. those do extreme stun damage to your soldiers (but none at all to shield). If you get downed by blue damage, no worries, just use medkit on the victim. Stun grenade will also be dangerous, but like electrical, can be revived with medkit.
The good point is, thoses shields, grenade, and electric weapons can be used by your men. Grab eevry single lighning gun you find, and use it against the alien (in the back because of shield). Try to keep stun grenade, they are used to create stun gaz rockets, wich works wonder against alien and easily clean ship door campers (a direct rocket on the door allows gaz to spawn behind the door)
Ceasans are weak to supression fire, so use and abuse it. Flashbangs, and smokes works well. See any ceasan go around a corner ? he is probably camping right behind, so shoot close to it to supress him. Door campers ? Shoot your machine gun at the door !
Xenomorphs tough.... they can be dangerous too. All xenomorphs move fast, can't be supressed, resist highly to gaz, and are bullet sponge (heavy balistic armor). they also blow up in acid pool around them when they die, so try to keep your soldiers away for the final blow.
they have weak points though :
- They priorise targeting civilians instead of your men. Even powerfull models.
- they try to hide out of your line of sight. For weak models, they often don't even attack in close range if they can be seen.
- They are weaker to laser, and die fast to fire (incendiary grenade/ flamethrower)
- They have weak nervous system, they can easily be stuned by electric weapons (2-3 hit with stick for a drone, 5-6 for a warrior. lightning rifle works wonder there)
The drones and warriors aren't really dangerous except for the fact they resist ballistic. Xenomorph Queen tough.... well, you probably saw the "alien" films haha) You'll need two turn of full squad ballistic fire to shred their armor. The good point is, they spawn very rarelly at start of the game. Better use rockets first in order to shred ballistic armor before shooting with other weapons.
Sebilians :
Medium resistance to ballistic, but shooting point blank will negate that. They have high HP though, so remember that. They arean't that accurate, but are immune to smoke and supression resistant. you'll have to shoot two time with machinegun to supress them (one if they just recovered) and use flame grenade as you would with smoke.
They are a bit more resistant to stun gaz, and quite resistant to electric damage (around 8-10 hit to get downed)
their more annoying point is they tend to thow weak chemical grenade at your men, wich deals around 30-40 damage until you wear the Fox armour.
Again : Supress fire, point blank shoot and stun gaz are your best bet against them.
They also use reapers. They can be a pain. They run quite fast and the common bull version have a huuuuuge pool of HP. Good news is, they only deal half damage, but double that as stun damage. Your men will get hurt, but should not die and will be revived by medkit. Point blank heavy fire to kill them, or weaken them with explosives.
Gas immune, so Gaz rockets won't help to capture them. Electirc stick can, but due to the huge hp pool, it will take forever. You actually have to weaken them with bullet first (when you take 100 damage for exemple, you also take 50 stun damage, even if it's not visible)
Normal reapers will spawn in terror mission, won't zombify on hit anymore, only on kill. They deal heavy damage though so, without armor it won't change a lot.
Now for the fun part : Bulletsponges.... I mean Terminators... no I mean Androns.
they start to appears durring or after the first terror mission (mid Second month).
You need laser weapon to deal with them. It's feasable to have them by the end of first month if you do very well. But if you don't... oh boy.
High HP pool, LOT OF ballistic armor. I am talking about "full squad point blank hard focus to kill one" kind of ballistic armor.
Unsupressable, immune to gaz, immune to ellectric stick. They are only weak to emp, which you won't have at this point. Only good point is their are not that accurate, but they tend to hit hard when they do. If you don't have laser, or EMP, best bet is abusing alenium rockets and c4, and too hell with the loot.
As for air battle, you'll have to learn it, because later all fight probabillity will give you 0 chance to win.
ligh scout : easy target for condor/Foxtrot
With condor, go 90° relative to the UFO, then when you are short range, spam dodge avoid until you are behind the light scout. You'll maybe take a few hit but thats okay. Once you are behind, you turn better than him so play with speed and movement to stay behind and kill him.
With Foxtrot : auto resolve will give you 0% chance because they can dodge and you don't. Yet it's still an easy kill. Full burst toward him. then shoot one torpedo point blank. BOOM. Can't dodge if you launch it directly in his face !
Scout : with condor, just like light scout (but you have a hard time to catch up with it)
With Foxtrot : low speed, then shoot two torpedo and turn back. Done.
Fighter : Condor only because they have missiles so foxtrot can't dodge and will be destroyed. Can be tricky, I usually full burst toward it and side dodge the missiles. When I am in my missile range, either he manage to dodge and I use the opportunity to get behind him, or he don't and it's over for him.
Destroyer : Just get in his back with foxtrots. With superior speed and one plane as divesion, should not prove that hard.
Terror Carrier. DON'T TRY IT if you don't have Anti-missile developped. They shoot unavoidable One shoot drones (they have unlimited ammo).
If you do and wanna try... then :
Send two condor and fight the escort away from the big ship. Go to a corner and destroy them. Anti-missile should protect you from drones until the fighters are dead. Then leave the fight. Now send Two waves of 2 foxtrot with one alenium torpedo load and one anti missile.
Dodge the slow moving missiles, and deliver your payload before your anti missiles run out of ammo ( 12 drones can be destroyed before you are dead meat )
16 alenium torpedos should be enough to down the carrier.
If you are confident in your abilities to protect civilians, it can be more lucrative to actually let the alien do their terror mission. In my last game, They attacked Moscow, and now the URSS increased their fundings by 500k !
Get two other bases up early asap, since you'll want to be able to do as many missions as possible.
Get hunter scout cars, since in x division vehicles no longer reduce the number of people you can take with you so it increases how much fire power you can bring and is good for suppressing, especially since you can get he x-division machine gun quickly.
Try to capture every alien you can at least once (baring a a few exceptions which are uncapturable) since they give ye a bonus to damage and provide additional research options.
Train up multiple teams, (3 in my case at min) since you will take damage and not being able to undertake missions (especially vital on'es like terror missions) can leave you lacking vital research.
You can overload your soldiers with gear and then drop it in the drop ship on mission start, this can be handy if ye are expecting to burn through ammo or if you'd rather play it safe and not worry about running out of ammo/meds.
Laser weapons tend to have longer ranges and accuracy boosts while X-Division weapons tend to have higher damage and mag sizes, big reason you want both is to help make sure your troops are adequate against all enemy types as some enemies are very strong against one damage type while being weak to the other
