What you’re looking for is “turn-based” and “tactics”.
There’s this game series, Jagged Alliance 1 and 2 or something, which I think has turn-based combat. But try watching some YouTube videos, see if it looks fun. Hey, if you find a couple of good videos for it, drop the links here. I’m curious too.
endless, freedom, realtime realistic battles, building a kingdom from scratch, your dude and his companions AND all your individual hired soldiers in big brawls where people die fast as they should when meeting a sword(you included)
worth mentioning, could very well be the OP's new treasured game.
I would say it's low-magic fantasy. It's got this weird medieval, germanic theme to it that is kind of interesting. There's undead and orcs and such, but your team of mercenaries never get any magic and there is no reviving your fallen mercs. It's a turn based strategy for masochists that is just an open world with very little plot; you level up and fight and replace your dead and repeat. The combat is most of the game, but it's deep and layered. If it had workshop support I'd still be playing it after over 1000+ hours in it.
its a poor man's mount and blade, but a very good poor man's mount and blade.
you wont get 2000hrs from it, but i safely say you will get 200hrs, which is not a bad number.
one of the safest buys you could make actually.
