Ys I
Dark Fact (final boss) is impossible -- even with Silver
I just cannot beat this guy. I have all the silver items equipped, as well as the defense ring. I run out of health long before he does, and for some reason in this game you can't use heal potions in the middle of a battle (you totall can in every other version of Ys I've played). It's driving me crazy, anyone have a sure-fire way to beat him? I'm playing on normal difficulty, btw.

I just finished the game and there is realy only one way to kill him.
You have to lead him from the edge to the side, hitting him miltiple times.
If you get yourself cornered you will die quickly, sometimes it is unavoidable.
Killed him after around 15-20 tries.

the fight is pretty chaotic and even when you have a strategy down it can be hard to consistently beat him. what i suggest is watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOginOZl1Pk for pointers.

That's not the same game. That's the PSP version, which is much easier as I understand. Adol doesn't take nearly as much damage from each hit in that version. You can tell it's PSP because the status bars are completely different.

67 times I've fought him, and only once have I even come close to defeating him. He had one hit left. I haven't been able to come that close again. Without being able to use a heal potion, he's impossible.

It was frustrating when i did it but I eventually killed him. I think the key is to focus on killing him rather than dodging the fireballs. The final boss moves around in in a "pong-like" motion. Thinking about it like that really helped :gs_joy:

even though its the psp version the idea is the same, hit him in the corners and follow his pattern to max your damage. do this while running in a somewhat circular motion to avoid some of the fireballs.

Edit: also the status bars(health bars) look the same to me, but i knew it was the psp version from the description.

Ive beat him on normal, but have yet to get past him on nightmare. It all about his pattern. You have to be where he is going. You will find, like me, you are chasing him around a lot.

I finally killed him a few minutes ago. Took me forever. I pretty much ran around like a headless chicken to avoid fireballs and hit him but I had to change that.

I ignored the projectiles and followed his path to land multiple blows in a single direction. Worked out well in the end.

Snapped a picy when the moment happened :D

I haven't even finished Ys1 yet. As soon as I killed him I saved and came here.
I really enjoyed this game.

i just went against him so much that i memorized his movements so i was doing near constant damage to him, still died tho, since i ended up being trapped in between holes and all, just continue until you beat him.

I beat him earlier (Normal mode), but it took about 20-30 attempts. There were a few things I found. Firstly when the battle starts he'll go to the bottom right corner, but you can't hit him much on the way down, so run straight up, and when he bounces back, meet him in the top centre of the screen and run to the left with him. Doing that, you can get 4-5 hits in a perfect row along the top left corner.

Then you just have to use this technique for the rest of the battle: see what direction he's about to go in, then run in that direction BEFORE him. He is faster than Adol, so if you've aimed it properly he will fly over you, taking several hits in turn, and normally in the corners of the screen. Especially at the beginning of the battle, try to get as many of the hits in the corners as you can, but by the time he's low on health, you'll be penned into a much smaller area so you'll just have to deal with that as best as you can. Finally, always keep moving around the screen as much as you can: you can't dodge the little purple projectiles, but you can dodge the fireballs!

Make sure you equip all silver armor and the blue necklace that Luta Gemma gave you! It doesn't matter what ring you wear as they don't have an effect during boss battles.

Alternatively, you can try changing your computer settings to make it run slower... if you're a cheater :P

(Though I sense I may have to do this myself if I ever decide to play through Nightmare mode...)

Huh? the psp version was easier? it seemed about the same difficulty wise to me..and the only real difference is the status bar lol..

Something that helped me in the end: I was constantly missing him even after anticipating his moves perfectly. I finally discovered that his hitbox is very small and located at his feet only. As long as you're intersecting the bottom of his robes you're getting him.

Something the game should have taught you by now too, is that if you're not in motion you will not swing your sword. This may not be exactly true, but its true enough that standing still in his way is stupid. As others said: keep your motion in circular arcs. This avoids the primary fireballs and most of the secondary fireballs.

The only exception is when he's approaching you in the direction you've anticipated, then you pre-run in that direction and let him fly with and over you. 4 hits this way is normal and is way more damage than he does to you in the same time. Doing it consistantly will let you win :)

All this said, he was a super-hard boss. Super super hard. I'm... frankly impressed that I had the patience to learn him and beat him, haha. A testament to how good this game is!

You might have missed the little pig animals that you see in the first village
they really only have one place to spawn somewhere on the left side of the field
