Ys I

Any common bugs/errors with this game?
I'm wondering if there are any bugs or errors that people are having with this game. It looks very interesting, as I'm a huge fan of RPGs and the old Zelda games. But I don't want to buy a game that is difficult to play because of bugs (why my Elder Scrolls experiences have been less than ideal.)

Thanks to anyone who answers this!

The the only bug I've seen is that Feena's 'Injured' pose has its colour palette all messed up if you choose to use the 'Complete' version artwork:

Hardly game-breaking though, and you can ignore it altogether if you use the 'Chronicles' artwork.

Plus, this'll get fixed soon. I'm wokring hard to fix up the bugs that are popping up.

The only ones people have found so far Sara has patched already in some manner. For instance, there was one where if you looked at the notebooks on the balcony of the last area the game crashes. She put in an update to disable that option from being selected until a fix is found.

Someone did note that if you disable vsync though, some of the framerates get huge and that does cause difficulty in some battles. Vsync is enabled by default, leave it that way.

But overall, XSEED is great with supporting the releases on Steam and getting anything we find fixed in a timely manner.

I've also noticed no beastiary stats at all on the game screen for Ys II (so far - just completed the Ice Ridge of Noltia). They are still registering in the Notes section, at least.

EDIT: Hmm, looks like the mascots are disappearing too. Also, I've noticed that sometimes Ys I's Time Attack is disabled when booting the game (seems to happen after a Steam update?), and in addition to needing to watch the ending again to play it, my times from before don't show either.

It's much better than the old version of Ys Chronicles, which I remember having similar graphical glitches to the feena one all over the place. So far the main bug I get is a message that simply says "mem tarine" when I try selecting a file from the main menu past page ~4 I think. And it doesn't always happen either.

Pretty good port though, just some minor achievement recognition issues that got quickly patched already for the most part.

Thanks again XSEED!

Would love to see the ark of naphishtim localised for steam, but it's beyond great the number of games available already (a lot more than the 0 it was not too long ago!).

There are numerous reports of My Name is Adol not working.

There were, but that got fixed.

I seem to be suffering from a rather irritating issue in that the game skips cutscenes even though the setting for skipping them is not on. I didn't even notice until I tried interacting with the Roda tree and ran into the harmonica scene with Reah. Anyone else got this problem?

Press Tab. I found that brought the stats up.

Ah, thanks, that seems to have worked. I was just fiddling around with the "Display"/"No Display" option in the menus, and it wasn't doing anything.

Thanks everybody for answering!
So it seems there are a few scattered bugs, but nothing that appears gamebreaking (besides maybe the cutscene thing, since the story is my main focus when playing games). Plus, there is support from Sara, which is great!
I don't think I'll buy it right now, but it is definitely near the top of my list and I'll probably be buying it soon.

I've also got the cutscene skipping bug. The first note of the intro music plays but then both Ys 1 and 2 immediately skip to the scenes with Adol waking up.:/

Yeah... unfortunately that and missing video music are both codec problems. Try installing a codec pack, or if you already have one, try disabling it for the game, etc. It's messy to try and debug codec problems a lot of the time, unfortunately.
