Ys I

Well I'll be darned! (Dark Fact/Nightmare easier on 60fps???)
I just found out that fps settings seriously affect the difficulty of this game. I've been playing on 144fps the whole time and today I finally defeated that S.O.B. I uploaded the video to youtube and checked the other videos and I realize the fireball swarms are much less and Adols movement is unhindered. In 144fps mode you can only move at full speed in 1 direction at a time and he's literally bathing you in fireballs. It's like a powerful wind is blowing on Adol and limiting his movement (I ACTUALLY thought this was part of the challenge...). Some of the other bosses might be more difficult as well but I cannot verify that.

Check the video I uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBvnk2fUOqA

I just defeated Dark Fact twice in a row on Nightmare 60fps...he was literally a joke.

Can anyone with a 144hz screen verify this?

Thanks

I can confirm all above with a 96Hz refresh mode. Anything above 60Hz seems to be affected when vsync is enabled. Haven't noticed that in Ys II but it's much easier so perhaps that's the reason why.

OK, thanks. V-sync is probably not the issue since I've played without it the whole time. It's probably the higher framerates messing up the timing of some of the elements. They should call this the Nightmare+ mode. It's way too sophisticated for a glitch lol.

I can verify your gaming skills (not what you're asking though XD ) Maybe I'm just bad but I've beat this game twice and the final boss was no pushover, requiring probably a dozen tries each time for myself. Also, I was playing on normal :'( .

Lower resolution also helps.
I had a harder time on Normal 1080p than Nightmare on the lowest resolution.

Yeah Chronicles has some weird framerate handling -- it looks like enemies perform movement in realtime, but AI per-frame. Other bosses like Nygtilger are almost impossible if your framerate is too high because his turning radius shrinks to nil.

Once you know Dark Fact's (static) path and position accordingly, it's exactly the same fight every time, and the only difference is Nightmare makes you stick to his path a bit tighter.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so this is why I had so much trouble with him...

Managed to eventually beat him but still if I knew it was my 120hz monitor it would have saved me a few hours of frustration.

Oh, so THAT's why there are those vids of Nygtilger basically drilling Adol to death.

Finally confirmed! I couldn't even beat him on Easy mode with 144hz. Time to lower that framerate and get some revenge.

Confirmed myself - it appears the game runs faster in general at higher than 60hz - you can even tell before starting the fight, at higher framerates Dark Fact's sprite while talking is playing faster than normal. The fireballs seem to be fewer in number and even the dissappearing floor seems to give you a little extra time. Wished I knew this was the case beforehand!
