Mine Boss, best ring?

So what's the best ring to wear when trying to fight that unforgiving mine boss? I already have the silver armor and sword, and I'm currently using the shield ring to no avail. And I don't notice a difference when wearing the timer ring.

And considering how I'm just able to walk right through the boss if I don't approach him as he's opening his wings JUST right.... tips on how to cheat would also be appreciated at this point.

As you're noticing, rings do not function during boss fights. It's just the way this version was designed (though the equipment accessories in Ys II do function for bosses, so yeah, kinda odd).

As for the fight itself, try to lure him to one of the four corners when you think he's about to appear. If he fakes appearing twice in a row (when he clumps together), you can be certain that he'll reform next time. Personally, I like to stay near to him when I think he's going to form, as it makes it much less likely that I'll miss. Still, the window for hitting him is rather small. And in addition to the obvious issue of attacking him too late, sometimes, if you try to attack too early, you may find yourself passing right through him even then.

So yeah, you really need to work on the timing for this boss. Additionally, you may want to find and equip the Silver Shield from the Shrine for some additional DEF.

Won on my 2nd try... the 10+ points on defense between the silver and large shield were enough to almost halve the damage I was receiving. I was finally able to outlast him, thanks for the help.
