I understand it was to pay homage to a player that had done it through the journey part legit. A shout out through the credits could have easily paid homage without subjecting the player base to a potential "no life" hidden achievement to be honest. I'm almost certain that if nobody was able to surpass this by changing their save file, a majority of the player base would had easily quit with one achievement not earned and nobody would had even bat an eyelash over it. Because once you get everything unlocked, built, and you complete the circle.. currently, there really isn't a reason to keep playing unless your curiosity turns into an mind numbing obsession and now you just want to complete everything just because you can.
I was actually curious to see how long it would take to achieve the "hidden" integer achievement legit, if it was even possible without manually changing the save file. If I had to do it again, I'd most definitely modify the game just to not have to run in the background for a few days just to try to get the full achievement completion.
It's 100% doable, and I have. However, would I intentionally do it all over again? Hell no. The only way I could see this integer achievement in the future being an achievement worth getting would be if once you've completed the game 100%, you would have an option to "ascend" keeping your current credits and gear and starting over with harder earned recipes and research, while gaining much more credits from things you've destroyed and built. I believe that would be the only plausible way to make that achievement worth achieving... legit that is.
