How to get dark star fragment

Craft a Devourer and let it "eat" resources to charge up for a star.

Pretty much what Zed said, also the quality of the resources also effect how much it charges, I wasn't getting any since I placed it in the first biome. Then I placed it in a spot in the final biome and got more charges.

If you want to instantly get a dark star fragment, there is a way to do that. I am going to put it in spoiler, in case you want to find it out yourself.
If you use meteor shower and one of the star fragments it drops enters the range of the devourer, it instantly transforms it into a a dark star fragment

I don't think the instant trick works.
I started a meteor shower and watched 4 stars get broken by the devourers on my island. I visited my reception tower afterwards and it gave me only one dark star.
