Imagination is a very good thing. But to buy just a map without any campaign or missions for it, it is like to buy for example a "Witcher 3" game with only a map and without any story line. So O.K., you can ride a horse, enjoy very beutiful views, but since there is nothing to do in this game you will play it maybe 3 hours and then close and forget it.
DCS have an editor so it is possible to create a couple of missions of course. But it is not a good planed historical campaign with storyline and well developped missions. So yes you can use your imagination, but anyway this is a game and it should have something to play with. But if there is only a map and no playable content for it, its not a game its only a map that maybe will suit some people with reach imagination, and even not all of these people. Because some people just don't want to bother with mission editor, spend a lot of hours to create a single interesting mission. As I said, after all this is a game and it must provide a gameplay.
This, is a simulation.
If you want better missions, make them.
I would guess the majority of the REALLY good mission creators out there make missions for themselves, and for their own groups of friends and maybe their personal discord communities. This is not a hobby which spoon feeds too much to the user, the ones on ED website, are usually quite bad TBH. Making missions and more so campaigns, is time consuming as was said before, there is no one size fits all mission set to please all people. some groups play multi week campaigns where they play together every night, and others make a 1-off mission that finishes in an hour. The fact that there are permanently running MP servers doing random mission is testament to those creator's skill.
In case you havent seen the DCS store page, they don't advertise too strongly the narrative component of this game. The gameplay that youre craving is IN the complexity of the various modules they release. And honestly, I think the community is pretty much on board that theyd rather have ED and the other dev groups working to fix bugs and make new planes then to add campaigns which most people wont play anyways.
Yes it is a simulation, but it is still a game. And I'm pretty sure that there is a people playing this game only in single player mod and because of lack of good campaigns they will not buy additional content (airplanes), because there is nothing to do with this additional content in single player and they just don't like to play multiplayer. So yes there is a pretty good DLC "Flaming cliffs 3" that have a lot of single player campaigns, but there is almost no campaigns for other maps and if there was more campaigns for other maps, maybe more people were buying this maps and additional airplanes to play single player on this maps. Again, no matter what you call it, simulator, hobby, it is still a game, and game should provide gameplay. In civilian aircraft simulators it is O.K. to just buy a map and then fly between different airports, but this is not the same in military airplane simulator.
And yes I know that some airplanes have campaigns coming with them, for example F-14B. But if I remember it right. There is only one mission on "Nevada" map. But there is also other airplanes that comes just as they are without any single player campaing. So why not include some campaigns in the maps, but make a notice that to play these campaigns you need F/A-18C or F-5E for example? It will motivate more people to buy these maps.
Don't get me wrong. I like this game, right now I'm playing Flaming Cliffs 3 and I also purchased Black shark 2, F-14B and A-10C, because each of these DLCs have campaign. But I prefer that each new map should have built in campaigns. Because when new map released, older DLCs don't have any campaigns for it.
This is a stupid comment. Why should DCS lacks good missions and campaign simply beca_use it is a simulation ? Does simulation means for you that it must be empty of content, and that the user must create his own content ? Nonsense. A lot of people would rather fly interesting missions rather than be bored.
Actually, this is a simulation about flyoing airplanes; not a simulation of mission editing.
Have you played DCS? sometimes I wonder... I only own like 5 modules and have close to 10 campaigns and 45 missions. and when I bought the persian gulf map, I unlocked a further 20 missions. This "devoid of content" BS that people keep talking is nonsense. Not only do most modules come with missions and campaigns, but then there is further campaigns available for purchase.
Only one of us is posting on a release announcement for a THIRD PARTY DEVELOPER making a map, then swinging a finger back to eagle dynamics and screaming that THEY arent making the content you desire, and to get their priorities straight. DCS is a (FREE) SANDBOX flight simulator, it says so on their STORE PAGE.
dynamic campaign is coming because DCS is already a commercial success on the merit of being a sandbox combat flight simulator, not a war simulator, whatever that is.
