I think its default on when AD spot any target.
But you might need generator or power source near by
I've tried placing a power source next to the Search light but it didn't work

And the light still doesn't work, it just stays dark even when a plane is directly over the light

Do not skip questions. it's important.
i just saw 2 "1"(group leader) in your screenshot means they are not in the SAME GROUP.
When AD units relay on each other to be functional(SL+GEN, SAM+RADAR+COMMAND, etc..) , they must be in the SAME GROUP, then place together within function range
Sorry I skipped the question. Now I understand what you mean by group. I didn't know until now that I can change individual vehicles in the group. Really sorry, should have asked what you mean by group. Thanks for the help now the searchlight works!
