The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics are pleased to announce that the DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst beta is now available for download from the DCS E-Shop:
http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/modules/kurfurst/
(Edit Note: Steam shop version to follow)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGuC5mC6zeo
Like previous DCS World titles, DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst features a painstakingly reproduced model of the aircraft, including the external model, fully interactive cockpit, mechanical systems, and a Professional Flight Model (PFM). Along the lines of our DCS: P-51D Mustang and DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora titles, DCS: Bf 109K-4 Kurfürst places you behind the controls of a powerful, propeller-driven, piston engine combat aircraft. Designed long before “fly-by-wire” technology was available to assist the pilot in flight control or smart bombs and beyond visual range missiles were developed to engage targets with precision from afar, the Kurfürst is a personal and exhilarating challenge to master. Powerful and deadly, the last production model of the only single-engined German fighter to see service throughout World War II, the Kurfürst provides an exhilarating combat experience to its drivers, and a worthy challenge to all fans of DCS: P-51D Mustang.
Key Features of the DCS: Bf 109 K-4:
Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend.
Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit.
Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.
Accurate Bf 109 K-4 model, squadron markings, and weapons.
Detailed modelling the Bf 109 K-4 instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.
Fly along with fellow DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Doras as you battle DCS: P-51D Mustangs in single and multiplayer games.
Work continues on DCS World 2 with progress on file structure, clouds and other effects, changes to the front-end GUI, and of course improvements to performance. We are still striving for a late-December 2014 release, but if debugging takes longer than we hope, it is possible that the release could be pushed to January/February 2015. As always, stated dates and timeframes are our best estimates and not promises.
Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) and Strait of Hormuz Map Status
Our map team is solely focused on the NTTR map right now. As mentioned in the last newsletter, the team has been having to do a lot of work adapting terrain textures and shadows since the map assets were moved from the terrainviewer tool to DCS World 2. How the terrainviewer tool and the DCS World handle light and shadows is quite different and made the NTTR map in DCS World look an odd yellow hue. In this way, the NTTR map has certainly been a test-bed for us using the new maps tools. While this and other map issues are being worked on, our map 3D modelers have had the time to add Las Vegas McCarren International airport. If time allows, we also hope to also add Tonopah Air Force Base (located in the northwest corner of the rand and it would provide great CONTANT PEG missions).
In parallel, we are also working on RED FLAG campaigns for both the F-15C and A-10C in cooperation with the author Steve Davies and pilots that have flown multiple RED FLAGs.
After the NTTR map is complete, the team will return to the Strait of Hormuz map.
Much as we are doing with 3rd party partner aircraft (and maps), we are developing a new copy protection system that will allow talented campaign builders to create and sell DCS campaigns through the DCS e-shop. As with DCS 3rd party aircraft and maps, each campaign will have to meet high quality standards and be part of an official license agreement with TFC/Eagle Dynamics.
We see this as a great incentive for 3rd parties to help increase the amount of quality mission content.
We have had to revise our production estimates on this project, and we now believe the project will be available in Q2 of 2015. By February 2015, we hope to provide you further updates.
Development of the MiG-15bis has been going well but not fast enough to release a quality product by the end of December 2014. Rather than push it out too soon, we are going to keep it in the oven a bit longer and release it in the first quarter of 2015.
The VEAO Simulations team have been busy getting the Hawk ready for release. This includes new training missions for general flight, basic and advanced navigation and weapons systems. The technical team have been busy integrating the Starforce copy protection system and are ironing out some bugs ready for release. The EFM (External Flight Model) is in steady development and will be ready for the VEAO testing team early in the New Year with access to the public in the Beta build Q2 2015.
The C-101EB model is the primary jet trainer and aerobatic display aircraft of choice for the Spanish Air Force, whilst the C-101CC model, with its 7 hardpoints and uprated engine, is a venerable light attack aircraft, seeing combat with the Honduras Air Force against drugs traffikers. With the two types sporting distinct yet similar cockpit layouts, combined with systems commonality, we anticipate there will be something for everyone in this package, from initial jet training and advanced aerobatics, to the light attack role.
AvioDev have been hard at work completing the C-101EB and C-101CC versions. The EB model is complete, with the light attack version close behind. The AvioDev Technical Team comprises of type rated pilots and engineers, helping to ensure the highest possible accuracy and realism.AvioDev are striving for a January 2015 release. EFM version is scheduled for afterwards.
Features of the EB and CC models include:
Highly accurate systems simulation
Complete electrical system modelling
Complete circuit breaker simulation (all systems fail correctly)
TARSYN gyro system replicated to exacting detail
Accurate flight director system
Custom air data simulation (airspeed indicators/altimeters behaviors, etc.)
Custom navigation system simulation

Fully adjustable cockpit and exterior lighting
Additional features of the CC model include:
HUD/Gun sight
Complete weapons system modelling
Custom ADF navigation radio system
AoA indexer and AoA indicator
Standby airspeed and altimeter incorporating unique physics
Radio altimeter
Advanced flight director system

The new and improved DCS World website is now live. The website has been reformatted to make it more organized, look better, and more mobile device friendly. Please visit the revamped new site at:
http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/index.php
Each day we are making more progress in moving DCS World 2. Since the previous newsletter, the team has made great progress on AI landing logic, an all-new multiplayer interface that includes such features as Favorites and Filters, new smoke effects, improvements to the lighting and shadows, replaced the general ground texture with a higher resolution one, increased new terrain graphics performance, the ability to load and work with different maps in the Mission Editor, improvements to the Graphical User Interface (GUI), dedicated server, and a new protection system.
We often read questions regarding how the current Black Sea map will look in DCS World 2. Rather than try to describe this in words, we have included a non-edited gameplay video of the freely available Su-25T Instant Action mission “SAM Killer”. We hope this will paint a clear picture.
Video: https://youtu.be/xaKkwChLE5c
We are burning the midnight oil and we will release an alpha of Nevada Test and Training Range map once we feel it is ready. Before we can do so though, there are still several items that need to be addressed. These will also include: completing the new multiplayer interface, performance optimization, various unified .exe issues, remaining crashes, and some night lighting issues.
The next aircraft module to be released by Eagle Dynamics will be the L-39 Albatros. The front and back cockpit are nearing completion as you can see in the included video. This video also gives you another look at the Black Sea map in DCS World 2.
Video: https://youtu.be/Xo6chhW9pPk
Primary aspects to still complete are an all-new external model and the completion of the cockpit systems and flight dynamics.
The biggest innovation for this aircraft, and a big part of our reason choosing it, was the inclusion of multiple network players in the same aircraft. This technology has been a big focus of the team as of late. This has also been a big reason for our re-design of the multiplayer interface. It is to be determined if this features will be part of the initial beta release.
We are further improving the Nevada map and moving it closer to Alfa. Items being worked on include adding the various TACAN and VORTAC stations, improving the mountain textures, improving ground object shadowing, and adding collision models to most ground objects.
Included is a video demonstrating the urban density possible with DCS World 2 and the tremendous sense of speed it provides when flying at low altitude. No, no time acceleration is used.
Video: https://youtu.be/LMOzd89daiU
When not working on the Nevada map, our map team is making steady progress on the Strait of Hormuz Map. Most of the airfields are now placed and a great deal of work is being done on manually improving the elevation mesh and textures. However, this map still has a long way to go with items such as airfield taxi routing, water textures, airbase lighting, ground object placement, navigation aids, and ATC still needed to be addressed.
A lot of new work is going into Combined Arms in regards to improved user control (particularly from the external unit movement control), intercom messages, and improved AI. While a bit too early to show off these new features in this newsletter, we hope to be showing these advancements off soon.
Work continues on the object models, cockpit systems and flight models, but there is nothing new to show this month.
Work is mostly focused on the air-to-ground radar that is making good progress; the team is now starting to create the various sub-modes such as the expanded modes. We have included a couple of images that show samples of the new air-to-ground radar technology that is based on radar reflectivity logic.

Despite our best efforts over the past six months, DCS World 2 has not yet achieved the quality level and features that we require for an open alpha release. Rather than release an alpha version that is potentially a disappointment for many users, we feel it best to keep it in the oven a bit longer to bake it more thoroughly.
We fully realize that this is disappointing for some, but I can assure you that it pales in in comparison to our own. No one wishes to release our new baby out into the world more than us.
Some of the biggest remaining items that we need to address before an open alpha include:
So, although we have been making tremendous progress in developing DCS World 2, there are a few more items that still need to be addressed in order to meet our quality standards. We can only ask for patience because we believe that it will all be worth the wait and DCS World 2 will usher in a new chapter in the world of Digital Combat Simulator.
While much of the team has been hard at work on getting DCS World 2 ready, our map team and engineers have been busy improving the NTTR map and fixing bugs. While we have made the significant step of moving the map into full testing, there are several important areas that need to be addressed before we can release it as an open alpha to everyone. Some of these items include:
When the map is available as an open Alpha, our plan is to still make this map available for free to those that purchased A-10C Warthog while it was in beta (prior to 21 February 2011). It will also be available for purchase from our e-shop for $39.99 USD.
The Spitfire has begun internal testing within DCS World. The Spitfire has progressed past the P-47 due to the level of info in ED's hands for the Spitfire while research continues on the P-47. The model has been added to DCS World internally and testing of the Merlin 66's performance has started; next will be the prop performance. The Spitfire version will be an early production Mark IXc LF with clipped wings. As a possible bonus, it's planned (but subject to change) to have the option to select the long wing version; however, you will lose the benefit of the clipped version and its roll rate.
To round out the collection of updated aircraft for Flaming Cliffs 3, the team is working on updating the MiG-29. This will include both a new, high-resolution 6 DOF cockpit and a new external model. After the F-15C, Su-27 and Su-33 Professional Flight Models (PFM) are complete, we also plan a PFM for the MiG-29.
The MiG-29 will have the same level of cockpit systems fidelity as the other Flaming Cliffs aircraft.
This will be a free update for Flaming Cliffs 3 owners.
The L-39C Albatros is making good progress with new cockpit systems being integrated on almost a daily basis. The new L-39C external model is also nearing completion (the L-39ZA is further behind) as well as the Professional Flight Model (PFM).
Work continues on the building the Hornet cockpit and air-to-surface radar technology. Most of the recent cockpit work has involved texturing and animation of cockpit elements.

Thanks to those that participated in the open beta and recorded bugs.
Note: The 1.5 open beta in Steam is still ongoing in the 'Betas' tab, and will be updated once DCS 2.0 leaves alpha and enters the beta here on Steam.
Minimum system requirements:
OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10;
DirectX11;
CPU: Core i3;
RAM: 8 GB;
Free hard disk space: 30 GB;
Video: 2 GB RAM card, DirectX11 - compatible;
requires internet activation.
For those that can't meet those requirements, i.e. do not have a DX11 capable card etc or 8GB RAM, then the plan seems to be:
- Find Steam library DCS World entry in your Steam client.
- Right Mouse button menu -> Properties
- Select tab BETAS
- Select option 'final-32bit-1.2.16 - The last 32-bit version'
You install will update and now stay at this DX9 version.
