Also, did it default to the appropriate Aspect Ratio? It sounds like it can't go to the resolution you are giving it, so check that resolution, aspect and monitors setting (by default the last one should say '1 Screen').
Or you can do this manually:
Open this file with Notepad++ (notepad or word is not recommended, but you can try):
C:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\DCS\Config\options.lua
Or just Your User Name from Start Menu then \Saved Games\DCS\Config\options.lua
Ctrl F to locate and change these lines:
["aspect"] = 1.7777777777778,
["fullScreen"] = true,
["height"] = 720,
["width"] = 1280,
Save the file with Ctrl S, make sure it's still options.lua and not options.lua.TXT or something.
Also, if you're using a VGA cable and not a DVI or HDMI, you need to tell the monitor to Auto Adjust for any new resolution/refresh rate, even if it's an LCD monitor.
