DCS World Steam Edition

DCS World Steam Edition

DCS should spin off a civilian flight sim similar to MS Flight Simulator.
I was watching the footage of Nevada for DCS World 2 and the detail was amazing. I think if a 3rd party was to develop a flight sim with the DCS World 2 engine and the same standards that ED has for their craft, we'd see an amazing civilian flight sim that could make lots of money and replace the aging MS Flight Sim. There are talented and skilled people making all kinds of addons for MS Flight Sim that I'm sure, given the tools, they'd love to make content for a civilian aircraft sim based on DCS World 2. There really isn't a sim, that I can think of, that is up to the same standards as DCS World 2.

And, if it was done right, you could have some amazing scenarios if the two games could work together. Could you imaging an attack on the Western border of the US and civilian pilots having to deal with such a situation, as pilots from the DCS sim fly over to take on the enemy? It might train civilian pilots in how to deal with such a situation. It could get really interesting.

There is nothing to stop you from making civilian aircraft into DCS, no need to split into another one.

Sure, the focus of DCS is on combat units but you can fly civilian aircraft there too, just better steer clear of combat areas or have missions without combat..

ATC might need more development though.
It'd be nice if DCS would spin off a public release of EDGE first.

I would also like to see civilian aircraft ranging from Cessnas and Piper Cubs to huge airliners. One problem here is the relatively small scenarios which might be suited for Cessnas but not long hauls. Also, the ATC system is really sub-par for civilian air traffic.
There's also many tasks for non-weaponized aircraft in battlefields as well.
Troop/cargo transport, medevac, recon, AWACS, tankers..
So there's still many ways to expand what DCS currently is offering.
I guess the idea of a split would be to theme the interface and title toward civilian and commercial aircraft enthusiast. Digital Combat Simulator really isn't a title that says non-combat simulation. The programs could be the same with a facelift for the non-combat simulations and missions. Basically, MS Flight Sim but set in the DCS world engine. You'd need lots of airports and landing strips. I'm just curious if any developers have sought out Eagle Dynamics to so something like this.
Hmm.. There has been talk about DCS potential use for training and such which needs those weapon, radar and such to be supported. Development of civilian equipment does not need those and are more often found in X-Plane instead of DCS.

So while it is technically possible there has not been development of such yet.. Trainer aircraft in DCS (Hawk, C-101, L-39) often have weapons support or variants so they are more at home in DCS.

It would be interesting to have civilian aircrafts there also but does not seem too likely at this point I think.

I think it would bring many new users to DCS due to a lack of a decent modern flight sim. I would love to fly a high quality DCS model Piper Cub just for relaxing. We could have some smuggling missions avoiding a F-5 interception or something like that. Some military lowfi trainers also would be cool like the L-70 Vinka, Beechcraft T-34, Beechcraft T-6 Texan, Slingsby T-67 Firefly, Stearman Model 75 Biplane and etc..

Civ birds or military transport, like the C-130, C-5 Galaxy, AN-124...etc.. would be great!
