How do you lock on target?

Hey, I'm setting up a really simple mission where im a P-51D going after a 109. Now how do I follow the 109 with my head and lockon?? I've seen it on youtube and I remember doing it in the older game Lock On.

I have not done it myself but there is a "padlock" feature that can be selected in gameplay options. Then you'd need to find the "view padlock" controls in the P-51 options. It's the "Num" key for the A-10A that locks and unlocks the view.

First of all you can't lock on targets in a WW2 bird. But as Mbar says there is a padlock feature that can be activated as an assist. Haven't tried it though since I track my targets using TrackIR which is something a lot (if not most) Youtubers use in their videos.

why be sad? the game has a padlock feature as an assist... for some its considered "cheating" because the game simulates having to watch targets with your head (mouse look or trackIR etc) but if you are running your own missions theres no reason you can't use the padlock assist, just keep in mind servers probably restrict padlocking (in most cases at least)

and most ppl can't help you with how to do it simply because most don't use it, i've never padlocked in a flight sim since my inital flights in F4AF when learning how to fly.

Another question.. Im setting up a simple mission where im a P51 against a 109. How do I get the 109 to attack me? I cannot find the option in the mission menu.

Make sure the aircraft are on opposite sides: One on RED, one on BLUE. Then give each aircraft a waypoint so they're going head on, coming in at an angle or chase. Simple as that

Derby, I cannot make the planes have separate colors or countries. Every time I try to lable them they both change to the same color or country

When you create a new mission you get the option to add and remove countries from the list and to select a side (RED/BLUE) for a country. Simply add Germany to RED and when you place the 109 select germany as the country.

Edit: there is also a dogfight against the Fw 190D-9 under instant action
