SSD vs HDD
So how much improvement would I actually get with an SSD over an HDD?

I have an i7 2600 and gtx 660ti

Loading times mostly, depends on what kind of harddrive and controller (speeds vary a lot).

So an FPS boost in DCS is not guaranteed?

I've only noticed an improvement when loading explosions: with an HDD there's a bit of a lag, while an SSD is smooth. Same thing when loading the horizon textures as you move.

If there's need to load more (everything does not fit into memory cache) then yes, SSD can help in those cases.

Btw, have you tried recently with the newest update version? Apparently FPS drop from cluster bombs has been fixed/improved. Haven't had a chance to test that myself yet.

This depends a lot on what are the bottlenecks of your current computer.

DCS is very demanding of the CPU for example: anything to reduce CPU load (stopping background tasks etc) can help if that is a bottleneck.

In case your harddrive is already fast enough and there's enough free memory for DCS then the difference could be very small if nothing at all.

Upgrading the GPU might help more than just SSD.

might remove some hitching as you fly around and it has to load a new "zone" but the biggest benefit is to as already stated loadtimes.

a great example of SSD over HDD is if you are a mission designer, loading the mission to test something goes from a minute or more to 15-20 seconds.

You won't get a higher fps from using a SSD. But you will get shorter loading times and reduced chance of stuttering.
