Stuttering Issues in DCS Despite High-End Hardware
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to report an issue I’ve been experiencing in DCS, specifically related to stuttering during gameplay. Despite having a robust system configuration, I am encountering sudden freezes that seem to coincide with texture loading from the hard drive.

Here are my system specifications for reference:

RAM: 32GB

Hard Drive (F:): A new and tested M.2 SSD, which should provide more than enough performance for smooth gameplay.

windows 11

geforce 4070

Even with this setup, I notice that the stuttering occurs when there is a noticeable spike in disk activity related to texture loading. This is particularly frustrating as my hardware should, in theory, handle the game without such issues.

Could you please provide any insights or suggestions to resolve this problem? Are there any known issues or settings I should adjust to mitigate this stuttering? I’d be happy to provide additional details or logs if needed to help diagnose the issue.

What is your CPU?
Is that NVMe SSD?

My CPU and NVMe are brand new products and have been tested.

The stuttering issue happens when the game reads map texture files from the disk. These files are in .zip format and take a long time to load

Thanks for your help, but I absolutely rule this out. I have monitored the issue, and the slowdown is due to disk access taking too long. It reads the following files:

landTexturesSummer.zip
ausasus.surface5
CPU is responsible for all I/O operations and also unpacking compressed files requires a lot of resouces. By the way:
Check the FPS counter in this video. When I set high FPS it forces to unpark cores and kills all stutters. The second way to get rid of this is to disable core parking.

You should check your committed ram while in game. This is located in the task manager, under the performance tab, then click on memory. You may be using more than 32 gigs, meaning you would be using a significant amount of your page file. This will cause stutters if that is the case.

I have monitored my CPUs, and that's not the problem. I have 19, and only 4 are idle, but not constantly—they come and go.

SalamiShaman, are you telling me that you can no longer play DCS with 32G?

I didn't have this problem before switching to win11, it's current.

You can. There should be no problem in single payer. In MP it might be problem.

My case occurs in single Player and it is always the same cause:

access to terrain files from my disk that take about 78ms
That's really hard for me to say, as I don't know the graphical settings you are trying to run the game at. Depending on the map I load though, it will greatly affect my ram usage. For example, loading into the Syria map would require around 70-75 gigs of ram at my current graphical settings. If I load into the Caucasus map however, the ram usage drops down to around 55-60 gigs. You may want to try another map and see if the stuttering improves or goes away. Like I said earlier, checking in the task manager for committed ram is the best way of knowing for sure. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help SalamiShaman but unfortunately that is not the way.

I am testing in the Caucasus and as I mentioned before the allocated memory is correct.

I lowered the graphics to the minimum and the same thing keeps happening. It is when accessing those terrain files that it takes time.
Lol

Airy: I have a problem
Everybody else: Here is a solution
Airy: Nah.

lol
