It depends. If you are looking to do the whole VR hand controls thing, DCS isn't really going to be the right title for that (even though it is supported in some modules on a somewhat basic level). If you already have a HOTAS and just want it for the immersion, it is pretty solid.
Il2 runs like a dream in VR, DCS doesn't, but DCS looks better than IL2 in VR even if you must lower the quality, better sounds, better effects, better maps etc.
I've had my best VR experiences in DCS.
Sitting on the deck of a super carrier in my F18, seeing two other F18s taking off right in front of me, hearing the roar etc. It's fantastic.
You'll probably spend hours fiddling with settings, there are various guides online.
And the new AMD FSR helps a lot.
Getting into a new flight sim is a huge investment. Lol.
I get better all round experiences is msfs and il2.
I'd love to get into DCS more but there's something that eludes me fps wise.
edit: if you can get good fps VR is *essential* imho
If you want the full immersion you need VR - period.
Oh yeah and that's right.
When using VR with DCS you still want to use your HOTAS. Using virtual hands in DCS is technically possible but it's a huge disadvantage when you really try to kill defending targets or even go into PvP multiplayer. The plane cannot be controlled smoothly with VR-hands and without missing haptic feedback (like you have with a mechanical joystick).
What the… I never said that!
VR + HOTAS >> VR + vr hands
You could argue that virtual hands are kind of more immersive because you can click buttons with your fingers instead of your mouse but holding the HOTAS with haptic feedback of the stick and throttle feels immersive too. With virtual hands you don't feel a thing - you only see what you do but have no feedback at all. Good luck with air to air refueling and dogfights. ^^
It may be a nice gimmick and feels cool for a freeflight but if it gets hot you're in great disadvantage without your HOTAS.
A good compromise could be leap motion / ultra-leap. You use your HOTAS and when you let it go you're hands are tracked by leap motion and you can click a switch. You could also always use the mouse.
This way of handtracking even let's you move all of your 10 fingers and not only 2 fingers like with virtual hands of your VR controllers.
I would still use a HOTAS with it though.

I know, I feel insulted as well.

Really looking forward to the Blackshark 3 and the AH-64A. Flying helicopters in VR is just insane and on your first flight you might need a puke bucket 😊
Thank you! I think I read something about late summer as well. Not too far away :)
