Ka-50 trim button not working, help! [FIXED]
Ok so I have been trying to learn how to use the trim in the Ka-50 for a while and only recently have I descovered that (as far as I'm aware) my trim button isn't working. I have followed guides and videos but it just doesn't want to work. If I bring up the virtual joystick (Ctrl + Enter) and put the heli into a steady hover, when I press the trim button (T) it makes the click noise but nothing happens. Where as in the videos I have seen the heli trims and when they return the joystick to center the heli is trimmed nicely. When I release it hasn't trimmed and my heli swings it's nose to the heavens. I have checked the controls and re-assigned it, uninstalled and installed again none of which worked. Can anyone help please, flying without the trim is a pain :P

This is what I often mention when talking about Ka-50 trim and autopilot:

Essentially in Ka-50 you are not just trimming but instructing the autopilot which can cause the "autopilot is trying to kill me" effect when unaware of it.

Yeah I know I've seen the video, what I'm saying is that the trim button isn't doing anything, I am doing it axactaly as he is but it's not responding the same as his

In the video at 2:20 when I try this. I press the trimmer button, it makes the click but when I return the joystick to the middle, it returns in game aswell. Basically the trimmer is doing nothing

Did you remember the autopilot channels?

Also you need to keep trim button down while moving stick to another position, then release it to give the parameters for the trim.

Yes I am really not sure what is wrong because I explained it in detail to a friend who is a Ka-50 pilot and knows what he's doing with it and he said he has no idea what going on. I will browse through my controls to see if there is something messing with it there.

srry man but theres gotta be some user error here or just a big game bug no ones ever seen, I'm gonna lean toward user error since I've never heard of the trimmer not working.... not that its a big deal we all do some foolish stuff from time to time.

if you press in the button and hear the trimmer click then it is indeed working.

I would see if maybe you need to turn central trimmer under ka50 -> special options on or off to get your desired results.

to be clear when you trim you move joystick to trim position and press trimmer then return to center within half a second, the attitude of the ka50 should most definetly be changed.

you can also press the trimmer in and fly to a stable attitude and then release which acts kinda like a flight director mode.

oh and im by no means an expert ka50 (or helo pilot) but I've done my share of stuff in the blackshark.

if you could do a video it would help

check that special tab for sure tho, could be something silly like your using the alternate trimmer etc.

hope we can be of further assistance if it still being a problem.

Ok I gave it a go with all your tips and still nothing, I will make a video tomorrow

Ok so update on the problem...

I have managed to narrow down what is happening by loading up a mission where the heli is trimmed to begin with. The heli flies a steady course with the joystick trimmed fowards but... as soon as I touch the joystick in any way, the trim sets itselft right back to centre and the heli nose shoots up again.

So something about my joystick movements is cancelling the trim and returning it to the centre position.

Hope this can help some more towards finding a solution.

what stick are you using?
kazereal Aug 24, 2015 @ 12:48am
Have you made bindings/configuration somewhere else that might be confusing DCS ?
Instead of external programs, always make binding in DCS options so DCS can get inputs properly.

Im using a SpeedLink Black Widow. And no all my bindings have been in DCS.

-Thanks for the help so far :)

Just made a quick video to try and show what's happening. Just before I touch the stick, the slight movement is from me increasing the collecive, the sudden movement is me simply moving the stick the tinyest bit.

strange behaviour, is this the same behaviour on other modules? the stick recenters?

in windows try and calibrate it, does it calibrate correctly or does it "recenter" on every touch?

if it does then somethings wrong with the stick or the drivers.

No all the other modules are fine and I just did the windows calibration and all is fine. It's not that the stick is recentering it's self, just the movement of this stick is cancelling the trim. It's as if the joystick is overwriting the trim, even though trim is active the joystick in game is still following my joystick directly. Which is why it's fine at the start of that mission, but as soon as I touch the joystick the game senses that my joystick is centered, and overwrites the trim to centre the stick in game.
