Carrier Landing Tips
So for the past few years ive pretty much mastered the whole land based support aircraft thing, and now im moving over to carrier ops. Im using the Su-33 and i can usually stick the carrier landing 1/3 times. I dont ever crash but i miss the deck sometimes. Anyone have any tips or strats on how to hit the deck each time without being a damn fireball? Whats a good rate of decent and pitch when the hook grabs?

Well, main point is to watch the AOA indexer, aim for the first wire to catch the third or fourth wire and something like 130kph speed at touchdown.

It has been a while since I've used Su-33 but the waypoint information and HUD should give decent glideslope in the instant action mission anyway.

Landing never bothered me to be honest, to a higher degree than usual i use my intuition to get things done when i land.

Not a too fast approach, steady press the wheelbreak on touch up and deploy parachute. Don't forget that the carrier uses cables (4, i think) to shorten the landing distance. Pretty easy actually, i never missed so far.

Follow the hud symbology down to the carrier, look for a -7 rate of descent at most. Adjust accordingly if you are higher or lower than the altitude you should be at.

when all else fails roll inverted and pull up :P

just like every landing if you get the parameters locked in and give yourself enough room to line up and get on a good glide path the rest will fall into place.... having said that the su-33 is SFM, once AFM comes carrier landing perhaps a bit more interesting.

The SU-33 even has a landing hook to grip on to the cable on the carrier.

You don't use brakes or a chute when landing on a carrier, you gun the engines on touch down

I know all the basics. Just needed to know a good glide slope (-7) thanks guys

True... Unless you want to land the Hawk on a carrier! Then you can't use too much brakes and I wish I had a drag chute as well... :D

Holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ elitist attitude lol.
"I'll make this easier for you.
You don't know anything. You think you know, but you don't. You run your mouth, but you're wrong. You think it looks bad, but it's good. You think AOA means something, but you don't know what it means."

And it even came in a single 354 sentence paragraph. Bravo!

What a Nerco...
Btw su33 was pfm aas well now.
The carrier land procedure we do today is different from past sfm and other system involved.
