this is a tough comment to construct, 2 very different planes....... It's very much like a debate between F-16 and F-15 as to which is better.
Su-27 is faster, longer range, more missiles but that should be expected from a plane that weighs 16k kg+ empty. The Su-27 is heavier then a MiG-29 even when comparing empty to loaded and has almost double the wing area, the Su-33 is even heavier.
also we should consider that the Su-27 we have is the Flanker-B model and the Su-33 Flanker-D neither of which can use the R-77, where the MiG-29S is an upgraded version (product 9.13) aka "Fulcrum-C", so we don't have a cutting edge Su-27 but rather early ones versus a more modernized MiG-29, thats not to say the Su-27 is a lemon but that modelling a newer variant is probably difficult due to the sensitive nature of the documents needed.
Su-27 was in service 1984
MiG-29 was in service 1983
OK, so I will finally give my answer (If both were AFM in DCS): I would rather the MiG-29S if the range permitted and the number of foes were not overwhelming, in all other scenarios I'd rather the Su-27. so basically really depends on the mission, for most cases though the Su-27 offeres greater cat and mouse ability just due to its higher fuel load and range.
so take away the fuel / range thing and yes I guess I would consider the MiG-29 a more agile fighter, howvever I could be wrong, now we begin to sratch the surface of personal bias instead of facts.
Su-27 also has better radar and ECM.... see this could go on forever :P
so its design is good but what its designed for is not good, your comment makes no sense.
with the Su-27 getting a guns kill once the energy on the MiG-29 starts getting depleted, the Su-27 is literally fighting the whole time in a neutral position till finally it lands into lead pursuit.
so I think we have our answer, the MiG-29 is less capable then the Su-27 in DCS.
This is only assuming at current time. We all know the different ways SFM's are hindered in low speed maneuvering and things on that line. Once the 29 gets its PFM in the next few months or so then we can actually tell.
yes this is true, its also maybe that the computer AI is a factor who knows.
they seemed to be very similar in performance with only a slightly edge to the heavier of the two.
