DCS World Steam Edition

DCS World Steam Edition

Friends and I cannot find each others servers.
EDIT: Well I got one friend to connect after I forwarded ports, but then another friend disconnects as soon as he loads any mission. This other friend with the issue has no router, only a direct modem. This other friend can however connect to the first friend without issue. I'm stumped!

My friend and I have both tried hosting a server with no luck. We do not get any errors, but simply cannot find each others servers in the browser - they just aren't there. I can connect to random servers just fine, but can't find each others for some reason.

Both of us have completely disabled firewalls, restarted multiple times, and tried direct IP connecting. When we tried connecting directly by IP the game says "connecting" forever, but upon minimizing the game crashes.

I know the default port the game uses is 10308 TCP/UDP. I have no idea if that's open for either of us or not since we do not have router access. Is there a way to change the used port to something I know is open? For example a port ArmA or something uses.

What do you mean by not having router access?
From the looks of it, it seems that you are not port forwarding.

someone in your home has to be the network administrator, ask them to forward port 10308.

He means he doesn't have access to the Router GUI (web) Interface or doesn't know how.
Usually its http://192.168.1.1
And depending on the model, the default login could be: Admin password or Admin admin or Admin blank pass.

When people say disabled firewall, they mean in Windows, that doesn't do anything, as DCS is already allowed in the exceptions list.

He needs to login into the Router Web Interface and either create a DMZ to the local IP of the system that will be Hosting the Server, or forward the 10308 Port to it.

When he mentions connecting directly, he doesn't specify by LAN or WAN.

The server will show up if it's on router's DMZ or 10308 is forwarded to its local IP.

There's picture guides for all sorts of routers here:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Just use 'DCS Black Shark' as the game when asked and it'll set you up ok.

Set the connection speed in MP Menu from the default 1024 to at least 4096 or 8192.
This will prevent the "Connection Interrupted" that's caused by the lack of consistent bandwidth required, assuming your Internet connection has no issues.

Friend and I were having the same issue, even our public server lists wouldn't sync up. I couldn't join any of the servers on his list even through direct IP address and visa versa.

Ended up that we weren't running the same game mode. I was running the vanilla DCS Steam edition and he was on the open beta.

FIX: I swapped it to open beta through DCS properties in steam library. Under the "beta" tab you can choose what game type you can run. Both are on beta and everything runs golden like a shower.
