MIG-29S/A/G Radar

Hello

why does the mig 29 not have a radar? is there a button or option I have to check or bind or something? it realy bugs me.

It does have a radar. Everything is done with the HUD (or the HDD if the HUD is not functional). I can help train you in the MiG if you want, I would be more than willing.

Have you read the manual? Perhaps you will be less bugged if you do...

You probably looking and NAV mode, switch the radar using 1,2,3,4 up to 9 keys.

ok sorry I expressed myself wrong, the su 27 has a radar on that screen on your right in the cockpit, why does the migs only replicate the hud?

Thanks for your answer but I have downloaded the mig 29 fulcrum manual but the PDF file does not seem to work

There is no ED manual last I checked for the MiG-29 and I think he is referring to the MiGs Heads Down Display repeating the HUD info. Many pilots dont know that you dont need the HDD like in the Su-27 and that is merely a luxury, everything can be done in the HUD in both aircraft.

ok sorry I expressed myself wrong, the su 27 has a radar on that screen on your right in the cockpit, why does the migs only replicate the hud?

The reasoning is limitations of the MiG's avionics package. They just did not either want to put it in the MiG for cost or logistical reasons, or it could not fit in the plane at all. The HDD on the MiG is for redundancy, unlike the Su-27s which is merely a luxury.

The HUD displays all the data you need to find and track targets. The Su-27 manual will actually work for this btw. Still I am open to meeting on TS3 or Dischord or talking over steam to help you man. I love the MiG and I would rather not a frustrating end to your time in the bird

Last time I checked (30 seconds ago) there is a FC3 manual located in the Docs folder that explains how the different radar modes work for the Su-27, Su-33 and MiG-29 as well as for the other FC3 planes. Page 29 and onward are especially useful here...

This guy is right though, anything you learn on the Su-27 or 33 will apply to the MiG.

ahh, I see, well for one I hope that the MIGs are better att dodging ammarms, those pesky ammrams :/

the radar functions are the same between the SU-27/33 and MIG-29 they operate the same just the MIG just repeats the hud no radar any more. i fly this aircraft ALOT in Multiplayer in the 104th. Dodging Ammrams is EASY but you have to deffend against them, by the time you hear the launch warning when the missile goes pitbull you better have allready though about that missile and how you are going to defeat it. http://www.twitch.tv/olde24/v/37732224

understand your countermeasures and what you are deffending.......if you are deffending a beeping RWR DONT FLARE you can seem them from ages away but you can use some chaff but you dont get alot in the 29...so use it wise. Best defence is point nose at the ground and TURN to beat missiles. it all depends on the engagement, missiles dont seem to track very well against the 29, yesterday in multiplayer i got hit by a missile and lost an engine "mig tank" and i look back to see a 21 on my tail shoot a R-60 or some sort at me and i chopped throttle pulled hard and the missile missed with NO counter measures...then he gunned me.......HAHA. if you like to go back and look at replays there is a program called TACview that is awsome to see what happend in the fight. http://tacview.strasoftware.com/product/about/en/ there was a group buy going on on hoggit from someone.

just remember the 29 flight model is still old flight model and very scriped movement at times. the new cockpit does not show the ECM light
This can be a Great tool to use but please dont just spam the ECM there are very good time to use ECM when engaging people or deffending missiles but not from take off to landing.
