AH64D trouble flying
Hello,

I recently bought the Apache, and I am struggling to fly it well. Im not a helicopter pro by any means but I can manage in the Hind or the Mi8.

My issue with the Apache is that I can never get it to fly in a stable way, its always rolling or yawing in some direction, and when I try to make small adjustments with my pedals or joystick I ALWAYS seem to over do it, and just push the helicopter into the opposite direction. I do not have this issue with the Russian helicopters, if I find them drifting off to one side I can easily correct and have them fly nice and smooth.

Is this just a skill issue or are there any tips that can help me? DZ at 3, and curves at 15 for both X and Y axis, rudders are at DZ 3 and curve of 8.

Oh and is there a way to stop trimming the rudder pedals? I hate that...

For a start, one should not compare a real world experience to a simulation, especially one that is far from perfect.

Most often such comparisons are made by pilots of Cessna 172, Cubs, ultralights and similar machines, which are incomparable with DCS aircraft, which have over 1000 horsepower and many times more weight and much more unstable aerodynamics.

DCS:W also play real Apache pilots. I think they would be the first person to criticize the the model for being simulated wrong.

Cosmo is one of those that have complained the Apache flight model is off. Particularly the effects 9fcthe tail rotor.

AH-64D flight model tweaks will happen in a future update, we have our own AH-64D pilots who have also given the team lots of feedback to work on.

Helis are a funny beast to learn as you need to counter the adverse effects of your own control inputs i.e movement requires a cyclic input, a collective and rudder input. You get used to it with practice then they are alot of fun.
Patpat Jul 31, 2024 @ 11:07am
True but the Apache is especially sensitive though :)
Troll Norris Jul 31, 2024 @ 11:12am
"Sensitive" depends on lenght of your stick. It is same case like with spitfire.
Common joystick has range around 4 cm on each side. The real flight cyclic have range around 20 cm on each side. So if you deflect your stick around 5 millimeters, the in-game cyclic stick is deflectad around 25 millimeters. That means if you have stick with propper lenght, you can achieve up to 5 times higher precission.

Not only that but trimming, I think I will need to test with my good old SW2FF while keeping the current hotas trottle, just swapping the cyclic with that old beast.

Hey if you want to fix the Apache flying go to your game settings, then select AH-64D and there are two options for trimming mode, set both to "Instant Trimmer" it will fix 99% of the issue.
