he said cheap.. not free.. don't deter him from the mighty mighty mig-21 =]
you can test planes for free in the standalone version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq79j5ijOaM (you need to delete "retail.cfg" for it to work )
If you like bombing and attacking ground targets, the Viggen is (relatively) cheap and a blast to fly.
Pick a plane that sounds interesting, try it out on Standalone, and then make a decision.
systems are in place to allow the transfer over to standalone.
with standalone you can have the best of both worlds (mostly, do yer research)
i buy both from steam and their store. no "ToS" issues.
It's not fine, I don't know of any forum that allows their forum users to direct people to their competitors.
So you're saying ED would be cool with people using the ED forums to tell standalone users to buy on Steam, where they lose 30% of the sale?
This is getting off topic, so I'll leave it at that, but ED need to clean this up, as it's way too common on here.
Steam does. If it's against the rules (and it's not), then it's not enforced. I see recommendations in the forums for legit key shops, buying direct from EA/Ubisoft/Rockstar/any other company that has their own store and launcher, etc. all over the place. There is even a GOG group where you can get news about sales on GOG. And one for Epic Games.
It's not. The first sticky thread (from 5 years ago!) on this forum is literally from an ED Dev telling you how to do it and there's another telling you how to deal with the later added restriction where you can only assign your Steam purchased modules to one or the other at any given time.
I believe I've also seen the ED Community manager themselves directly point people to the Standalone version specifically to allow them to access the try before you buy option ED has.
some free mods need FC3 to function but more recent "major" mods dont rely on fc3.
the new cayuse heli mod is a blast to fly (watch your throttle inputs) and the a4e as previously mentioned by user troll norris is very well regarded.
They are simpler planes, but give many planes for one price.
regardless, when (if?) it comes back its worth grabbing.
They made FC3 available again. I would guess it will stay until FC24 comes out with the next update.
