VR?

I upgraded my GPU from 1080ti to 4070 and my device from Quest 2 to 3.

My current rig:
- I7 Gen 11
- RTX 4070
- 64 GB RAM
- DCS is installed in M2
- Quest 3

From 1080 to 4070 the improvement was the smooth rendering of DLAA, able to use above low settings and support higher resolution of Quest 3.

Worth noting that I have been using OpenXR Toolkit for a while. Also that I see no difference between between mid and high textures, neither difference playing between 72 and 90 HZ.

The only advice I can give to you?
Get a 2nd mortgage and but the best rig you can! :p

For VR?
I wouldn't recommend nothing less that a 3080 and I7 gen 10

There are various guides that go through both DCS settings, windows settings and nvida settings to get good performance.
With oculus you add the various oculus/virtual desktop programs that needs to be set up correctly.

Yah, I guess you didn't. The implication though for someone new to it is that it's a breeze to get it running at high settings. DCS VR is easily the most frustrating and 'difficult to get running smoothly' VR experience you will ever have. Every comment should come with this caveat 😉

Yes, this. Honestly I'd save up for a 4070+ and skip the 3000 series.

I've generally had it quite easy.
My G2 has mostly worked just fine.
Had perfectly fine performance.
With the pimax crystal.
Only thing I've done is set up PimaxXR and used Quadview to get eye tracking and foveated rendering. All my windows and nvida settings are now on default. No complex tweaking needed.

Would you please post the specs of your current rig?
In any I guess eye tracking should improve rendering prioritizing what you are looking at something that we certainly will never have in Quest.

i7 13700k, 3090, 64gig DDR5, Nvm 1TB

These are the settings I fly in VR
The screen resolution doesn't matter in VR.

I was using HTC vive with a 1080- GPU and it was more than playable - on medium. Now I have a new PC I really need to get back into VR :WH3_clasp:

I have a 5800X3D and 7800XT with 32GB RAM and can run it at 50fps in VR on a Q3 so you do need a very beefy PC.

Top of the line hardware currently is not good enough to run VR in DCS flawlessly.

Sure you can fly about solo with decent fps. But dogfighting with any decent numbers is a different matter. Weather effects spank performance hard also. Shadows of any kind are not possible.

Some headsets can run at 45fps without destroying your retinas. Some need a constant 72-90fps to not look horrible. Ghosting and warping occurs below headset native refresh rate that makes WWII unplayable. Firing missiles from 10k distance at a dot is slightly more playable.

If you have money, get the very best hardware available now. Memory and CPU are also important for large missions.

For the love of god, do not buy meta. Do your research and google issues because there are gonna be tons of it. I just got a quest pro and I can barely get this ♥♥♥♥ to work and even then it still needs some tweaking so that other aircraft don't look like they are teleporting across the sky but flying.

Weigh your options and google each headset/brand you come across so you ultimately will make the smaller mistake. At this point, while the game does look stunning on my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ quest pro (which has its own issues, like disconnecting controllers), I'm wondering if trackIR would have been a better choice between the 2.

If you were to buy meta, don't expect support from them. They are lazy and useless. Good luck my friend, I hope your choice will work for you.

WOW!
Really bad experience with Meta headsets you may have!
Besides the recently problem Meta provoked with OpenXR I have been happy with Quest 2 and now Quest 3.

Of course I would rather prefer a Pimax Crystal but the price/features of Quest 3, IMHO, unbeatable.

The biggest issue is all of the conflicting advice you will get all over the place. For example, most videos and comments say to use OpenXR Toolkit for 'amazing' performance gains. False. I wasted about 2 weeks with every setting possible and ended up just uninstalling it as I saw no difference from just using the in-game settings. The other thing nobody tells you is to try different modules as some are impossible to run smoothly in VR without turning settings to garbage low (I.e. the Apache). I am still testing but the only thing of value is setting your encode bitrate to a fixed number (at least 200) in the Oculus Debug Tool. This is where everyone should begin if you are experiencing stuttering, even with a powerful PC. I have a 4080 Super and 5800X3D but I was still getting stuttering until I set it. This is with a link cable, standalone, not Steam.
