The default map is about 15gig. Then all the high quality models and liveries for aircraft
The weather, the physics etc.
If you have all the maps and aircraft. DCS will be about 700gig.
Game binnary core: around 4GB.
Non-playable assets, AI and 3D models, textures and external unit sounds: 120 GB
This includes:
Aircrafts (around 90 units): 77,7 GB
Probably the biggest one is F-14 (16,7 GB). It is one of the most detailed aircraft in whole game.
Everything else is around 30 GB
Data for playable content:
SU-25T 725 MB
TF-51D - 421 MB
Caucasus - 17,5 GB
Mariana islands: 14,3 GB
If you think 200gb of install size are a problem then you should know that my DCS folder is 645gb...
Damn, Im over here sitting at 353GB. How many maps and modules do you have installed?
7 years back it was under 100gb.
Please, make sure to own a SSD dedicated for DCS of 1TB or higher. It doesn't need to be nvme.
Next 5 years DCS can weight close to 1TB. if you own most of the maps. It is a growing simulator. A LOT of assets.
May 21st I believe DCS will include a new asset pack making its footprint on storage a little more larger.

This is not the usual videogame you see anywhere. It requires a certain amount of hardware investment.
'Free', 'small' and 'good' can't be in the same sentence about flight simulators.
It's 2024.
ssd storage space is ~6¢ per gig.
hdd storage space is ~2¢ per gig.
Games aren't going to get any smaller moving forward, and if they do it's because you're paying a premium for alternative solutions to owning local storage.
