Help with launching weapons
Hello, so I am trying to practice targeting an enemy plane and launching missiles and have been watching a few tutorials on YouTube but still having trouble and need help. So firstly, I'm not sure if the issue is caused by not having the correct key bind set or not targeting correctly. The plane I am flying is the F-16 and I have it armed with 2 AIM-120's. What I do to target the plane is to use the TDS cursor and select the enemy plane on the radar. I then select master arm and press the AA button below the HUD and line up the steering point so it in the middle of the main circle, however I can't seem to be able to fire any weapons. When I go to the control options, I am not sure which is the right key bind. I found nothing when I searched weapons release, but I do something called trigger which bound to the space key, but it does nothing. I will post a pic below to show what my HUD and displays look like.

Any ideas on what I'm doing, wrong?

Thanks

I think "trigger" is for the gun only.
You should be able to find the right keybind in the "hotas" section, if you can't find it I'll look up how it's called when I launch up dcs next time.
Other than that it looks good on the screenshot, should be no problem to get it off the rails once you've found that bind!

Thank you for the quick reply. I looked under the HOTAS controls and found the bind for weapons release and was able to set it on my joystick and get the missiles to launch. Also I'm not sure if you can help me, but I created a basic mission with just me and a single enemy plane. In the editor, I set the altitude of the AI plane to 25,000FT and give him some waypoints. However, when I load the mission. The AI plane is only a few thousand feet off the ground and just flying in a circle. I know there are a couple of options for what you want the enemy to do, and have tried them with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hey there,

For the AI aircraft placement and waypoints, make sure to double check the initial point of placement, it should be under Waypoint "0," if I'm not mistaken.. When you are in the waypoint section, you can move back and forth between placed points and adjust the aircraft altitude, speed, and Advanced Waypoint settings.

From the "Advanced Waypoint" box, you can set up flight formations, orbits, engagement taskings (i.e. "Target enemy group: (Group Name)", or even have aircraft follow or intercept friend and foe, respectively. For the scenario you might be going for, you can set up some aircraft with unarmed loadouts and reduce their gun/cannon ammunition to zero and set their Reaction to Threats setting (Advanced Waypoint setting) to "No Reaction" and just have them follow your pathing for target practice. TU-95s and C101s are good dummy craft to practice with.

I love playing around in the editor, but I'm kind of retarded and know how to physically do these things, but suck at explaining or recalling them from memory. Hopefully this text dump helps, nonetheless!

The button is called weapons release and you need to hold it down for a second or two.

I suggest to read manual.

That's what I thought, but it wasn't showing up when I searched for it. Turns out I had to look under HOTAS in the control's menu to find it. I got it working now, and was able to shoot down my first plane.

Thank you. I'm not sure if the plane is flying the waypoints still, but at least I was able to get them to stay at 25,00FT. I guess you have to set the altitude for each individual waypoint.

Yeah, it's a bit of a chore! The mission editor here, much like Arma's, is capable of doing a lot of cool things. The issue is that it takes some learning and some trial and error.

You need the weapons release button to fire a missile.
"weapon release" hold it down to fire

In addition, it might be good to know that weapons release is not always instant. For bombs in particular, it can take a couple of seconds before the aircraft decides that release parameters have been met and it will drop the munition(s). Although this is mainly when using CCRP mode.
