[VR] Quest 2 looks blurry
I use 7800XT and Oculus Quest 2 on gen3 usb-c cable@2.1 gbps, I think I have set resolution to 150% everywhere I could, details in DCS are almost maxed, and still it looks blurry. I can barely read the DDI screens. I dont think it's the Quests fault, because ie the screen in desktop mode looks pretty sharp.

Here is the example on how it looks, if you zoom to something about 150%-200% then it's pretty similar to my experience.

If the resolution of the image is same as the in-game resolution, you've found the issue.

In my recent testing between the Q2 and Q3 (I returned the Q2 because of the blurriness), resolution makes no difference to the clarity in the cockpit, unless you have the upscaling enabled.

Flight sims have very small details (like cockpit numbers and diels ) so you'll notice the lack of clarity.
Unless there is something particularly wrong. It might just be how the Quest 2 looks and the only ways to fix it is to buy a different headset.
If you're using DLSS it might cause blurriness.

After playing with this for a couple of days I feel like my vision is getting worse, eyes are just getting used to the blurry things, kinda like wearing the wrong glasses, I think I may be passing on VR, I would need a resolution of 8k per eye to not feel i'm half blind and this is not gonna happen in next 10 years hence Quest 3 is just a few pixels more, or at least what I can tell from looking at the specs.

I don't blame you as I felt the same way with the Q2, hence why I returned it. There is a very big difference in the clarity of the Q3 purely due to the lenses. You'll have to decide if double the price is worth it though. I bought through Amazon so I would have a no hassle return. I'll likely keep the Q3 as I enjoy a lot of the standalone games available on the Meta store too.

Res of ingame displays settings, MAX that.

You can't do that even with a 4090. Do you even own the game?

There is no "ingame displays settings", where do you even have that?
All I can do is max the scaling in meta app to 1.5x which would be something like 5400x3500, and it looks bit sharper indeed, but fps drops to unplayable, you will have max 30fps avg with this setting in DCS on very low details, but It's not like its DCS to blame, in MSFS2020 you will have 8 fps with such VR resolution, and maybe 30fps with DLSS and framegen on 4090.

After playing some other games, I feel like VR is kinda stuck in the early phase, both computers and games are still not ready, even for the older googles like Q2. DCS is still the best thing that happened to PCVR imho, I have tried skyrim VR, and I had 3 crashes and 30 glitches for 2 hours of playing it lol, and VR in MSFS is similar, sometimes after changing graphic settings, the game fails to remember to start again and I have to restart googles or an entire PC cause I am stuck on the rift loading screen. If you think DCS is bad with VR, everything else is even worse.

You mean the main resolution setting? This thing is not functional in VR, it shows me the monitor resolution, no impact on VR at all.

DCS:W supports OpenXR natively. I can not remeber how to turn on the OpenXR overlay right now. Simply you don't need the OpenComposite.

Well you apparently don`t. However as it seems to have escaped your keen intellect, he is referring to "Res. of cockpit displays" option in settings.Wack that as high as you can get away with, however even with that on my quest 2 it remained a little blurry so i used the reshade mod that sorts the issue out no problems. MHDDs fully readable in VR with a Quest 2.
BANE Feb 10, 2024 @ 7:59pm
With MSAAx4 and OpenXR tweaks it is pretty much readable now, even with Q2. DDI screens were ok even before that though, the worst are always all of the fonts on analog things like fuel indicators end such, on my previous settings I couldnt read that at all
