DCS World Steam Edition

X56 was working, now windows 11 does not even see it.
Long.....

I have a windows 11 machine which was a system which was updated from 7 to 10 then 11. I rebuilt it and added a newer video card and M.2 Drives recently. Then installed full version of 11 on the M.2 . The system gave me options to boot 11 or 10. So I just left the old 10 hard drive there. I installed DCS and then bought a new X56 and pedals. All worked great but for ghost inputs. I even got an external USB powered hub and used that from the get go.

After playing DCS for a day with the new setup I was being plagued by ghost inputs so tried to move my USB devices from my external powered hub to the main inputs on the back of the motherboard. After doing that my system died. I did all the moving with the system shut down. It would not boot. Win 11 install program would not run, I was able to boot to 10 (which for some )(*^()*^ reason on this machine takes 20 minutes and could never figure out why, my other kids system is SAME hardware etc). So from 10 was able to scan the m.2 drive and no errors showed. I ended up having to unplug all my non SSD hard drives and then was able to run the Win 11 installer from the USB stick Microsoft provides. I got everything reinstalled and got DCS running. I played for about 1 minutes to begin the process of setting up all the switches, and the Joystick was no longer there! When I plugged it into the USB there was not chime. The Gsoftware would no longer see it. I uninstalled all the drivers and g software, reinstalled etc, several times. So I figured the stick died. But when I plugged it into two separate windows notebooks those systems immediately saw the X56 on their USB lists. I did not have time to install the logitech software on those to further test it.

So what the actual F? Why would this be the case? Very odd. Loosing interest in flight sims with such hardware BS. But my 22 year of Saitek X45 still works fine. LOL. RMA from BH obtained to send everything back but I'd rather fix it and not bother returning.

(Oh did I say it? I Hate windows, used it for years since DOS, but still painful)

Any ideas?

Mike

Not going to lie, it sounds like your MB is dying. The inconsistent and glitchy performance when some BUSs are in use for instance. This isn't a problem with the joystick, considering the whole "10 minutes to boot in to windows" thing.

Unfortunately I do not know of any utility that lets you test your MB.

I suppose you could try reflashing your Mboard to see if it is related to a setting.

Without really being able to examine your system or see the problems in person, I am going to agree with the above comment that this sounds like you are having a motherboard issue. Since the HOTAS works fine on other devices, it is pretty obviously still working correctly.

The only advice I can give at this point is to test the USB's on your system. Don't worry about the powered hub and instead just plug something like an external hard drive or the like into various ports and observe what happens.

The booting thing was only with Windows 10. With win 11 (fresh install ) it has been normal and boots pretty fast. I thought about that possibility.
I have tested all the ports using 1. the TrackIR in each 2. USB Stick in each. 3. Throttle in each. 4. Saitek X45 in each. 5. Keyboard (uses two) in each pair and 6. I have moved the mouse BT dongle around.

I need more time to test things later. It's frustrating.

And the oddest thing is that when I 'reinstalled' the logitech software the thing waited until I plugged in the joystick before letting me finish the install. With the throttle only plugged in the software would not finish installing. So some how the system is seeing the joystick but not reporting on the device list. Very odd.

The things you are suggesting are either faulty motherboard so that data bus's are no longer working properly or a faulty PSU so that correct voltages are no longer being sent across the bus's which causes the former. But because DCS can run fine without your comp dumping it just sounds like the mboard.

Having to disconnect all but one of your hard drives to get your system to boot again has absolutely nothing to do with the joystick.

LMAO. So I tested the stick on my kids lap top, installed the logitech software and it worked fine. Then reinstalled on my desktop again with all the devices directly plugged into MB connectors, all USB 3, and IT WORKS. I even turned the lights back on on the stick and throttle. NO GHOST inputs. Works fine. Had to reprogram all my buttons and flew a mustang and F16. Landed the F16 without the gear going up and down. LOL.

update.....once in a while if the stick does not show in the "Device" list you open "Device manager" and choose "show hidden devices" low and behold it is there. Just tap it and all of a sudden it shows on the Device list. Go Figure. So far no ghost entry issues. Played for a few minutes today.
